Two intrepid South Australians are taking on a two wheeled adventure of a lifetime while raising money for charity.
Tom Guerin, a 32 year old police detective and 31 year old energy company manager Stuart Patterson have selected Yamaha XTZ660 Ténérés to take them over 15,000km from Holland to the eastern tip of Russia. In doing so the pair hope to raise $20,000 for Chariots for Charity.
To tackle the remote Eurasian land mass that will take them through Outer Mongolia, the pair chose Yamaha’s 660 Ténéré for its combination of rugged reliability and dirt road capability: “The bikes are awesome and fitted out with genuine Yamaha accessories we are sure we have the right equipment to take on the harsh conditions,” explains Patterson.
Tom and Stuart have been riding trail bikes through the Flinders Ranges every year since being taught how to ride. They are also both avid hikers, particularly on self contained treks carrying all food and water supply for multiple days. With a strong history of outback treks, survival, and camping, the pair feel they are well positioned to tackle the trans-continental adventure. The trip is planned for eight weeks starting in July 2012 with two weeks extra allocated for unseen issues.
The bikes were supplied by major sponsor and Adelaide dealer Yamaha World. Sales manager Tim Pumpa says: “We had no hesitation in helping out because they are a great pair of blokes who have planned this trip in aid of a worthy cause.”
The Chariots plan to produce HD videos, high resolution photographs, blogs/journals, radio updates and upon completion will offer motivation/travel and adventure speaking engagements.
