Indonesian Yamaha prepare for a test session with Australia's Aaron Morris

Aaron Morris to ride Yamaha R6 in Asian road race championship

31 May 2011

As part of Yamaha’s International Rider Development and Exchange program, Aaron Morris will compete in the Asian Road Race Championship at Sentul for the Indonesian Yamaha Factory Team. Aaron tested with the Yamaha Team at Sentul last week and they were impressed with his pace.

Indonesian Team Manager witnessed Aaron’s Supersport ride at Phillip Island at round one in 2010 when he put his YRD Yamaha R6 on pole in his Supersport debut. He had been on a short list for the team ever since and it was a matter of a spot becoming available and both parties being available. Their regular rider had been injured in a car accident recently and the call was made and Morris was set to go.

For the first time the Asian Road Race Series will be Televised ‘LIVE’ throughout Asia to a huge audience. This will be a great opportunity for Aaron to showcase his talents in front of the lucrative Asian market. At this stage Aaron is looking forward to the challenge and will give it his best shot. Kawasaki Test Rider Fugiwara currently leads the series and will be using all of his World Supersport experience to keep the youngsters at bay.

The opportunity for Aaron arose as part of a Rider Development and Exchange program organised by Ian Irving of Yamaha Racing Developments.
John Redding, principal of YRD and YRT, supports the YRD Rider Development program here in Australia, which has now expanded to Asia, and this year sees four young Australian riders competing in the FIM Asian Road Race Championship.

Yamaha Australia is also aiding a pilot Rider Exchange arrangement between Malaysia and Australia.
