Beaton and Todd Continue Good form in MX Nats

5 Aug 2014

GYTR Yamaha’s Jed Beaton and Wilson Todd featured in a strong showing at round eight of the MX Nationals at the Barleigh Ranch circuit, Raymond Terrace, with both riders finishing inside the top five for the day and Beaton holding on to his points leaders red plate.

Yamaha’s factory supported MXD team entered round eight full of confidence after a good showing at the previous round and both riders were aiming for the podium. Beaton claimed third for the day on the back of his 4-3-2 results and maintains an eight point lead in the championship with two rounds remaining.

Beaton battled hard all day and while not at his brilliant best, he salvaged a good points haul and a podium position and can now refocus on the final two rounds of the championship.

“I felt a bit off most of today,” Beaton said. “I couldn’t really get going in qualifying, then in race one I struggled to make the passes I needed, when I needed them and I got really frustrated out there and started taking crazy lines and just not thinking straight.

“Race two started a bit the same but I got it together towards the end and I thought I rode the last race pretty well, although my start was terrible. It was good to finish on a positive note and be able to turn around what started as a pretty average day,” he explained.

Wilson Todd continues to close the gap on the riders in front of him in terms of speed and the results are starting to show. Todd took two consistent fifth place finishes in the first two legs, then jumped out with the lead pack in race three and went to work.

He clawed his to second place and stayed there to the last lap when teammate Beaton was able to sneak up the inside on a turn. His 5-5-3 results proved he is now consistently running a good speed and he is developing nicely as a racer.

Todd sits fifth in the championship after round eight.

“I felt pretty good today; I just needed some better starts in the first two races to improve my results. When I was up the front in the last one, I was able to pick up a few things and learn how to ride this track better.

“Fifth today was not bad and the team again have been really supportive, so a big thanks to them.”

The championship moves to Gladstone in three weeks’ time and with only eight points’ separating the top two, it is vital the team turns in a good performance at the penultimate round.
