Joel Milesevic and Sam Martin taste success at the Gippsland Motocross Series

Big Finish for VYJDT

11 Oct 2010

The Victorian Yamaha Junior Development Team looked to finish out the 2010 season on a big note at the eighth and final round of the Gippsland Motocross series at the Yarram track. And a big finish it was with Joel Milesevic winning the 125/150 A Grade Championship and Sam Martin landing on the podium in both the 15 years 125/150 and 250cc classes as well as claiming the round win in both divisions.

Matthew Hopkins-Talty (K & J Motorcycles) can finally put the 2010 season behind him. Jumping from the 9/12 to 12/16 age group was always going to be tough and viewed as a development year for the young charger yet he still battled on in the face of some tough competition. During the course of the year missed eight weeks due to broken wrist and then at the Aussie Titles last week broke his scaphoid bone in his wrist and put paid to any decent overall championship results that he is more than capable of. With plenty of time, he will certainly be well prepared for the 2011 season.

Joel Milesevic (Peter Stevens Geelong) needed only nine points in race one of the A grade 150 2stk class to claim the  Gippsland championship. Joel racked up the consistent scores of 4-6-3 for 4th overall for the round and more importantly win the 2010 Championship.

Joel has had a tough year and has fought through a tough few months but still managed to post respectable results throughout the year. To win this championship, take third overall at the Australian Junior Championship and another third in the Victorian Junior Motocross Championship is a fantastic effort .

Sam Martin (Peter Stevens Ferntree Gully) finished his last Junior Race on a mission and came out swinging in the final round winning all of his six races convincingly and winning the round in both classes. In doing so, Martin elevated himself to third place overall and just two points away from second, despite missing two rounds in A grade150 2stk class.

In the A Grade 250 class Sam finished a second overall in the championship and surely would have been in the title hunt if not for his mid season injury. Sam has been a terrific competitor and team member for 2010 and he will be certainly a name to watch in the National U19 2011 competition.

VYJDT would like to thank all our sponsors for 2010 and look forward to working with everyone again in the 2011 season.
