Jat Marmont podium bound at Canberra MX Nationals

CDR Rockstar Yamaha Move to Second in MX Nationals

19 Apr 2010

CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont racked up another podium finish at round two of the Rockstar MX Nationals held at Canberra over the weekend.

His championship aspirations are also in sight as Marmont now moves into second place in the point standings and is set to pour the pressure on in the upcoming rounds of the eight round championships.

Confronted with the tough back to back sprint moto format that saw the Pro Open riders hit the start gates for four, eight lap sprints with only five minutes break between each leg, Marmont overcame average starts in the first two legs to come barnstorming back in the final two motos and claim second overall for the round.

On the back of his 6-3-1-3 moto scores, the factory Yamaha rider notched up 80 points to stand in second place for the round and now is second in the championship, only 13 points away from the series lead.

“It was a struggle getting out of the gate in the first couple of races and I really had to fight my way through. But once I got my starts better, I was able to win race three and run inside the top three in the final moto.”

“The result was also good for the championship. When there are so many points available, a good or bad day can make or break your championship. I was able to be consistent, stay in contention and now I am ready to grind it out all the way to the finish,” Marmont says determinedly.

Team mate Cheyne Boyd also logged in a solid day at the office finishing the day out in sixth place. Like Marmont, Boyd took a moto to get into his groove finishing ninth in the first leg, but returned with 6-5-5 in the final three motos to claim sixth spot.

“I just couldn’t get out of the gate in the first moto. But the last three races were a bit better. I feel like I am riding the bike quite well and I have been training hard, so a return to good results can’t be far away," said the optimistic Boyd.

Team owner Craig Dack also feels the positive energy in the team and thinks a return to the winners circle isn’t far away.

“It was an up and down day for the team, but everyone fought on to make it a respectable finish. I feel that both riders are on the cusp of returning to their best and I can see the determination building up in them.”

“The next round is in our home town of Geelong and I’m sure it will be a priority of the riders to make a great showing in our home town race,” Dack finishes.
