CDR Rockstar Yamaha duo of Josh Coppins and Jay Marmont put on a clinical display at round three of the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals as they romped their way to a 1-2 finish for the day in the premier Pro Open class.
Still driven by the disappointment of round one, the CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team have been on a mission the last two rounds to claw back points. That drive and the success from the Appin and Raymond Terrace rounds now sees Josh Coppins take the lead in the championship chase with team mate Jay Marmont leapfrogging his way to third after a sensational showing at the Barleigh Ranch circuit.
Josh Coppins entered the round with momentum after winning round two a week prior but he is still plagued by an ankle injury that prevents him from riding and training during the week. Coppins again showed his class and determination by taking the round win in commanding fashion, finishing the day with 2-1-1-2 places in the four points paying races.
The big points haul now sees Coppins head the points table, despite finishing seventh at the opening round.
“It was a good day,” Coppins shrugged at the end of the final moto. “We always knew we had good lap speed but our starts had been letting us down so we invested plenty of time getting the right set up and the best tyre for getting off the gate and so far it seems to be working well.”
“With a few weeks break between the next round it will give my ankle a chance to heal, then I will be able to get back into training full swing as the season gets into the busy part of the year,” Coppins said.
Jay Marmont continues to show the fight and tenacity that made him the reigning and three times MX National champion. Marmont again battled bravely through the day to take third, highlighted by an impressive moto win in the final race.
With two podium finishes at the last two rounds, Marmont has climbed back to an impressive third overall in the point’s standings and beginning to find the form that would have his competitors worried.
“Again, today was another good step in the right direction. Last year I struggled here so it was good to bounce back get a podium result today,” Marmont said.
“I was able to be pretty consistent today which is important with this format and some of the other guys were a bit up and down so we made up a heap of points. But now the real work begins as we still have 24 races to go and anything can happen.”
Team owner Craig Dack was also a satisfied man at the end of the day and watched proudly as his riders took the top two steps of the podium at presentation.
“I’m just really happy for the team that we got these results at the past two rounds and especially today. The mechanics have worked long hours and did whatever it took to get the bikes and riders in good shape and the rewards are in the results.”
“The goal now is to maintain the drive and intensity we have showed the past two rounds and keep the confidence and momentum of the riders flowing as we still have a long way to go,” Dack explains.
The Rockstar Energy MX Nationals now takes a three week break before the teams and riders meet again at Murray Bridge track in South Australia for round four where the CDR crew will be looking for similar success.
