Shawn celebrating the 2010 MX National championship win

CDR Yamaha Bids Farewell To Shawn Hodgetts

12 Apr 2012

The Coonabarabran round of the MX Nationals marks the final weekend long time and devoted CDR Yamaha spanner man, Shawn Hodgetts, will be with the team.

After 14 years with CDR Yamaha, Hodgetts, now with a young family has decided to take a role outside the motorcycle industry that allows him to spend more time with his wife and children and be home on weekends.

“I would like to especially thank Craig for all his guidance and knowledge he has passed on in my time at CDR, and I’m sure we will remain lifelong friends. I would also like to acknowledge the information and support Gary has given me over the last 14 years, and I look forward to his continued friendship as well,” Hodgetts said.

“I look forward to following Josh and Lawson's results over the rest of the Championship and having contributed so much knowledge and time to the development of the 2012 CDR YAMAHA YZ450. It is pleasing to know I was part of a great group of people that built such an amazing bike for the teams championship defense. Although I’m disappointed I won’t be there, I wish both riders the best of luck in their chase for the 2012 Championship,” he signs off.

Hodgetts first joined the team in 1998 when he travelled over from New Zealand to assist a young Daryl Hurley in his first year on Australian soil. During that time he has gone from being a mechanic to one of the most respected men in the pits and in charge of all CDR motor and electronics technology.

“Shawn has been a great asset to this team,” states team owner Craig Dack. “He worked his way up the ladder and gained knowledge and experience that allowed this team to be as successful as we have been.”

“In that time, we not only have become work mates but also good friends away from racing and something that will remain after he leaves CDR.”

“It’s hard to lose someone like Shawn, but I understand his reasons for going and everyone at CDR Yamaha wish him well for the future and trust he will enjoy this time with his family and his new career change,” Dack ends.
