Cody Dyce wins VIC MX Champs for YJR

1 Aug 2012

The fourth and final round of the 2012 junior Victorian Motocross Championships was held at Goulburn Valley track in Shepparton recently with the Victorian YJR team out in full force.

After all the recent rain in Victoria, it was a great surprise to be greeted with perfect track conditions and the boys ready for some serious racing. Saturday saw 125 2 stroke and 85 big wheel races which meant Matt Hopkins Talty, Jed Beaton and Wade Kirkland were all in action.

Wade recently broke his collar bone and as a result missed the third round but his results for the day were 6-4-5 for fifth overall and fifth overall for the championship in the 12 to 15 years 85cc class. The Shepparton result showed everyone that the time off the bike has done him no harm. Wade was happy with his day and knows with better starts he could be on the podium with lap times right there with the leaders.

Jed Beaton's day on his YZ125 got off to a slow start with a mid-pack start. Jed did well to fight his way back to ninth. His next two races were much better with top 10 starts and 5-5 results for fifth overall in the 13 to 15 years 125/150cc division. Jed missed two rounds with injury and made his way to 11th in champs. Jed was happy with his riding but once again he know he needs work on his starts and with the next big race being Oz MX champs in Coolum, good starts will be a must.

Matt Hopkins Talty is on the coming back from a small injury once again and had a day to forget in the 13 to 15 years 125/150 class. Bad starts and a small fall in race one had Matt finishing with 13-8-8 for 10th overall. He rounded out the championship in fourth. 10th is not where he should be and Matt was determined to show day two would be much better.

Sunday the boys were greeted with perfect track conditions once again. Matt and Cody Dyce were in action and Cody was in third Overall and two points behind second and was super keen to make the points up and get the number one plate.

With one of Cody's main competitors not racing on this day, Cody had Taj Marshall were left to battle it out for the win in the 9 to 11 years 85cc class. Cody's day started off perfect with a win in moto one to move into the points lead. Cody won race two and a safe second place in race three secured the round and championship win in 2012. Cody was super happy with his day and loved the look of his new number one plate.

Matt's day on his YZ250F was a positive one with each race bringing better starts and better results as the day went on. His 6-5-3 moto results left him in fifth for the round and in turn fifth for the championship. Matt was much happier with his Sunday form and showed with starts in the top five he can be a podium guy.

Manager Cameron Taylor was happy with the boys overall effort as they never give up and showed great spirit.

The next major race being OZ junior champs at the start of October the boys will be hard at work with some training camps planned with manager Cameron Taylor. Practice starts will be high on the list of things to improve!
