Dinsdale and Todd Maintain SSMX Lead After Round Two

11 Mar 2012

The Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd kept their points lead intact despite a challenging day at round two of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Series held at Bundaberg over the weekend.

Hot conditions and a tight, rutty track confronted riders at round two with Wilson Todd continuing double duties contesting both the 12 to 15 years 85cc class as well as the 13 to 15 years 125cc category. On the 125, Todd was a model of consistency taking 3-2-3 results in the three legs to finish the round in second place and consolidate second position in the series points.

But the 85cc class wasn’t as easy where poor starts and two crashes affected his overall result. Ever the fighter, Todd scrambled 4-1-4 results to take third for the day but maintain his points lead in the class.

“I’m happy with how things went on the 125 and thought I rode pretty well on that. On the 85, I didn’t get great starts and kept getting into problems with other riders. The only race I got a decent start, I won.”

“But, I am looking forward to the next two rounds at Hervey Bay and Coolum as I like the soft dirt and those tracks,” Todd said.

Joel Dinsdale continued his domination of the 15 years Lites class. He took another three wins from three races in another strong performance. Dinsdale nailed the start in two out of the three races and raced away unchallenged. In the opening race, he had to pass a few riders during his charge to the front.

After some technical issues in the morning session, Dinsdale elected not to race the 125 but will be back in full force at round three.

“With the amount of rain at home in Mackay, I haven’t been able to get the amount of riding in I would like, so I treated today like a hard training session. I pushed hard early in the races to increase my speed and race pace and then backed it down at the end,” Dinsdale explains.

Round three of the series will take place in the soft sands of Hervey Bay in two weeks time with both riders a fan of the sandy circuit.
