Dinsdale Dominates and Todd Terrorises for YJR

2 May 2011

Yamaha Junior Racing Queensland duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd left their stamp at round three of the 2011 Shell Advance Sunshine State Series with a perfect three class wins from three contested in an outstanding  display from both riders.

The black sand of Coolum hosted the round and the lead up rain left the pits a quagmire but the track in mint condition and allowed the Yamaha Junior Racing duo to flex a little muscle on their opposition in a dominate day for the team.

Joel Dinsdale is on a mission. And no junior racer commits to a first turn like Dinsdale. The Mackay flyer goes in harder, faster and holds it on longer until he commands the lead. It is exhilarating to watch.

Dinsdale took the perfect three wins from three races in the 13 to 14 years 250cc class and looks in complete control of the Yamaha YZ250F. He ably backed that up with the round win on his YZ125 in the 13 to 15 years 125/150 class with 1-3-1 finishes. The win on the 125 is all hard work as Dinsdale’s style and technique is most suited to the 250 machine and his wins on the 125 come from guts and determination.

“I’m so glad to have won this weekend. I did a heap of riding over the school holidays which was good but at the same time it was so tough because that is something Dad and I used to do. I missed him a lot over the past couple weeks and I wanted to show him that I’m still doing what it takes to be a professional racer,” Dinsdale said emotionally.

Who would have thought the small statured and quiet natured Wilson Todd would be such an animal on a motocross bike? Todd has stepped up his racing enormously in 2011 and the evidence can be found in the opening race of the 12 to 15 years 85cc class.

Todd led the opening lap and started to gap the field before crashing. He got to his feet, picked up his bike and got going in fifth place but with a big margin back to the leaders. Todd put his head down and peeled off some of his best laps and regained the race lead with one lap remaining. He went on to win the round with a 1-1-2 performance.

And just when you think he is too small to ride a 125, the little digger fires a holeshot in race one, slots into second place sandwiched between Jesse Dobson and Joel Dinsdale and more than holding his own before the race was stopped due to injury.

Todd continued his improvement on the bigger bike and finished with 10-8-6 results for seventh overall but more importantly, his consistency sees him move to fifth overall in the series.

”I have always liked racing here at Coolum and the track today was awesome. My 85 was good as I don’t spend much time on it so that was nice to win and I am just trying to learn how to race my 125 better and it seems to be paying off. It was a good day,” he finishes.

The team will now head for the deep sand of Hervey Bay for round four of the Sunshine State Series in a fortnights’ time and focus on continuing to build momentum as the season and series progresses.
