Dinsdale Wins and Todd Closes In

26 Jun 2012

The QLD Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd worked through a challenging weekend at round seven of the Shell Advance Sunshine State series but both managed to secure plenty of points in hone in on a series victory.

Joel Dinsdale did more than hone in, he took the series win on board his Yamaha YZ250F in the 15 years 250cc class with another dominant display at Leyburn Park. Dinsdale won all three motos for the round and in the process stretched his lead out to 84 points. With only one round and 75 points up for grabs, Dinsdale adds another series win to his resume in his final year as a junior competitor.

Dinsdale also managed second place on his YZ125 in the 13 to 15 years two stroke class and closed to 20 points of the series lead. But while all appeared rosy on the outside, Dinsdale felt his back let go in the opening 250 race and struggled with pain and breathing throughout the day. He was doubled over between the motos but gutted it out for some hard fought results.

“I don’t even know what happened to my back but during that moto, I felt it pop and then it was just really hard to breathe. After a couple of laps, I felt like my head was going to explode so I just did enough to get through the day.”

“I will get it checked out tomorrow and hopefully it isn’t too serious.”

“But, it was good to get the series win on the 250 and another  victory for the team. Everyone works hard and my Mum puts in huge hours driving down from Mackay each weekend and it’s great to have her support,” Dinsdale says sincerely.

Wilson Todd was a man on a mission on the weekend and took out the 12 to 15 years 85cc class with 2-1-1 results on his YZ85. The round victory now sees his series lead at 49 points and one good moto at the final round could be all it takes to snare the teams’ second series win.

The mission on his YZ125 wasn’t as easy as Todd showed plenty of speed but crashes proved costly. Still, the young Atherton charger is a tough nut and he will be back and flying at the final round at Coolum in two weeks’ time.

“It’s the first time I have been to this track and I liked it. It was really fast and sandy so when I made a mistake, it meant it was a pretty big crash.”

“I will get home and get myself back into shape and be ready for Coolum,’ Todd said.

As mentioned, the final round of the 2012 Shell Advance Sunshine State Series takes place at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast in two weeks’ time. The QLD Yamaha Junior Racing team will be looking for a strong finish to the series and add more hardware to the trophy cabinet.
