Dual Race Wins for Serco Yamaha At Moree MX Nationals

19 Jul 2010

It was a case of so near, yet so far for Yamaha’s official Pro Lites team, Serco Yamaha, at the Moree round of the Rockstar MX nationals. The trio of Kirk Gibbs, Ford Dale and guest rider, Jason Dougan produced some sensational racing, but one DNF for each rider cost them dearly in the overall standings for the round.

Kirk Gibbs was looking to get his season back on track after a disappointing Albury round. A crash in moto one and a DNF in moto two were not the way he was hoping his day would unfold.

But with two more races later in the day, Gibbs had the opportunity to redeem himself and that is exactly what he did. With the track at its roughest and ruttiest, Gibbs powered home on his Serco Yamaha winning the final two legs convincingly and his 11-0-1-1 results salvaged fifth place for the round.

The opening two motos proved costly in the championship standings, dropping him to third overall but with 150 points on offer at the final round, there are plenty of races to climb back up into second position.

“After the morning race, I was just angry. I don’t belong back in the field like that and I had to go out there and put in the kind of racing that I expect from myself. It doesn’t change the result, but it shows what I am capable  and what I should be doing. That is where I belong,” Gibbs said.

Ford Dale also experienced bad luck early in the day when a crash in moto one damaged his bike and he was unable to finish. Race two wasn’t much better but with the change to think things through over the lunch break, Dale came out swinging in motos three and four taking 3-2 places to go with his DNF-11 in the morning to round the day out seventh place.

Despite the tough start, Dale was also able consolidate his fifth place on the championship table.

“It was a frustrating day,” Dale explains. The morning races just didn’t go my way and I got caught up in crashes and then I had one of my own which damaged an oil line on the bike. But, I was able to regroup and get on with it after lunch and finish the day out strongly. It was far from the perfect day, but at least I was able to turn it around and get something from it,” Dale finishes.

In his final guest ride for the Serco Yamaha team, UK import Jason Dougan again put in some commendable performances. The Brit racked up 4-5-4 finishes in the opening three motos and was right on target for a podium finish for the round but  he was unable to complete the final moto for the day and rounded out the Moree event in eighth place.

“I think I am starting to get used to this place. I have never seen any of these tracks before or raced a 250 in sometime, but I was able to get in with the good guys and have a real go. I have had such a great time here in Australia and the Serco Yamaha team have done a tremendous job assisting me. If the opportunity arises, I would love to come back and do some more racing in Australia,” Dougan said before jetting out.

The Serco Yamaha team now face a quick turnaround to have their bikes and riders prepared for the grand final of the Rockstar MX Nationals. The two day, six moto format will be tough on bikes and bodies and the Serco Yamaha team will be looking to finish the season out on a strong note.
