The Victorian Yamaha Junior Racing (YJR) team got their 2016 state championships aspirations underway in fine style with top results at the opening round of the Victorian Junior Motocross championships, ran over the weekend at the Korumbauura circuit.

Current number one plate holder, Cody Dyce, was back in action for the first time since breaking his foot just prior to the Australian Junior Championships in October last year and was fit and ready to go while another year of experience had Liam Andrews confident heading into the opening round of 2016.

Dyce immediately showed he is back to his best to take the round win in the A Grade 250cc with 3-1-1 results. Only a fall in race one stopped him from a clean sweep of the day and Dyce put his rivals on notice that he is back and desperate to retain his number one plate.

Dyce also looked strong in the A Grade 125 class leading the opening moto and again headed for victory only to tip the bike into a deep rut and have the radiator catch and get torn from the bike. He was unable to finish that race but after replacing the damaged radiator, it was back to business as usual for Dyce and he won the final two motos of the day. His DNF- 1-1 results left him eighth for the round.

“It was good to be racing again,” Dyce commented at the end of the day. “It’s been a while since my last race after my injury and I was just looking forward to getting out on the track and seeing how I go.

“I’m pretty happy with how I rode and the track was in good shape all weekend. Thank you to Yamaha Junior Racing and all our team sponsors for backing us again this year and hopefully the good results can keep coming,” Dyce ends.

Liam Andrews also made a positive start to his campaign taking fourth in the 12-15 years A Grade 85cc. Andrews finished the round in fourth place, just two points from the podium with 4-5-4 results in the three motos.

“It was a good day and Cameron Taylor (team manager) was able to point out a few things that will help me in the coming rounds,” Andrews said. “I want to go harder at the start and put myself in better positions early in the race and that’s something I will work on.

“But, fourth is okay for the first round and things will get better from here. Our team is awesome with so many people helping us and thanks to Cameron for his help,” Andrews ended.

The boys will now prepare for round two of the championship in the coming weeks as the season hits full swing with local, regional and national events in the following
