Encouraging Signs for NSW YJR

The NSW GYTR Yamaha Junior Racing Team took on the wide-open spaces of Goanna Tracks in Coonabarabran for round two of the NSW Junior Motocross Championships. The team was back to full strength with Ryder Kingsford fresh off a broken collar bone while Bayley Clancy was looking to show improvement after his recent trip to the US.

Kingsford led the way for the team on the weekend with a second-place finish in the 9-11 years 85cc class on his YZ85. He finished with 2-4-2 results in the three motos contested for the round to take second but remains in the championship lead after two rounds.

“I only just started riding again last week after breaking my collar bone and I think I tried to push too much, too fast and crashed too many times,” Kingsford explains. “Still, it’s cool to be back racing again and we now have some time before the next round so I will be able to get some more riding in and be better prepared.”

Bayley Clancy also raced well on his YZ85, taking fifth place in the 12-13 years’ division. Clancy has been putting in the hard yards recently and its beginning to show in his racing as round two was a big step forward for him.

He also finished inside the top 10 in the 125 class in a busy weekend for the young charger. Still not quite big and strong enough to man handle his 125 around the long and challenging Goanna Tracks circuit, Clancy improved every time he hit the track and his confidence is growing with each round.

“It was a better weekend for me and I feel like I have been riding better lately. I have tried to race as often as I can to get back up to speed as I missed a lot of last year because of injury but I think things are starting to come around,” Clancy said.

The team also supports Kayd Kingsford, younger brother of Ryder, and he showed again he is a rider of the future. Despite a big crash, he was well in contention to take the class win in the 9-11 years 65cc and is adapting well to his YZ85.

“On paper, it probably doesn’t look like the best weekend, but the riders all showed a lot of fight and some good improvement since the opening round. We still have plenty of work to do, but I think things are back on track and the results will come in the near future,” explains team manager, Darren Thompson.

The third round of the NSW Junior Motocross Championships is set down for Lake on July 9/10.
