Falzon Wins QR Supersport in a Thriller

1 Jul 2014

Daniel Falzon has won round three of the Supersport 600cc class at the Australasian Superbike Championship, at Queensland Raceway, after just edging out rival Aaron Morris in an exciting days racing.

Falzon, on his Caterpillar Yamaha R6, was locked in a day long due with Morris (Maxima Yamaha R6) that saw some of the best racing of the year. Falzon and Morris sprinted away from the pack and an intense battle between the two developed in each of the three races.

Falzon clung on to win all three legs by the barest of margins with less than a second separating the pair across all three races. Falzon gained the maximum 75 points on offer and is now just five points behind Morris in the championship chase.

Morris finished alongside Falzon in every race but can take comfort that he now has the series lead after three rounds.

Morris also leads the Saturday Yamaha YMF –Loan Championship and is on track to win a brand new YZF-R1 after winning the round at Queensland Raceway.

Aiden Wagner finished third for the day in another solid performance on his Wagner Soil Testing Yamaha R6 and also holds down third in the championship.

Championship leader after round two, Callum Spriggs was unable to compete in Sunday’s events after a heavy fall resulting in a broken collar bone. Despite missing the round, Spriggs maintains fourth in the points

It was another impressive performance by the Yamaha R6, with the bike dominating the top 10 for the round and the championship.

“The Supersport class again proved some intense racing with Daniel and Aaron almost racing in each- others’ pockets. It was a great spectacle as both riders are quite aggressive on the track and it bought the crowd to the fence line,” states Yamaha’s John Redding.

“With Callum missing the round, the championship has opened up a little and the top three are only 15 points apart so the championship tension is really starting to build.”
