GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Continue Podium Run At MX Nats

5 Apr 2011

GYTR Rockstar Yamaha’s Shaun Redhead raced his YZ250F to another podium finish at round two of the MX Nationals on the weekend. While team mate Luke Arbon battled on bravely to take fourth overall for the round in another successful day for the factory supported Yamaha team.

A rutty and challenging track greeted the Under 19 riders with the conditions difficult for the up and coming stars of Australian motocross. Redhead peeled off 3-2-2 results in the opening three legs and looked on song for a big finish in the final race after a great start.

In the early stages of moto four and inside the top three, Redhead fell from his bike twice but was able to remount and claw his way back through the field to finish 12th and take second place for the round.

“I felt pretty good today once the track dried out. It was really wet in practice and qualifying so it was hard to get a good gauge on how I was going. But once the racing starting, the track was good and I enjoyed racing it,” Redhead comments.

“At the first two rounds, I have been consistent and that was just the start I was looking for. Now, it’s time to start picking off some race wins and get myself at the front of the field,” he finishes.

Luke Arbon had a tough day at the office by his standards but despite all the challenges he finished fourth for the round and runs second in the championship with a long way to go.

Arbon qualified well taking P2 but couldn’t get a good jump from the gate and struggled to get clear track in the opening moto. He fared much better in the second leg and finished in third place. But the afternoon again provided drama for Arbon as in the final leg, whilst in third and challenging the front runners, he crashed awkwardly hurting his thumb in the process.

His finishes of 7-3-8-7 totaled 61 points and enough to snare fourth for the round.

“It wasn’t one of my better days, was it?” Arbon questioned at days’ end. “But if I can still manage a fourth overall on my worst day, I will take it a move onto next week and come back firing.”

“My thumb is pretty sore at the moment so I will have to get that checked out tomorrow, but this result has only made me more determined,” Arbon said.

“Fourth is not where I belong!”

The GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Team have a short turn around for round three this weekend to be hosted at the Barleigh Ranch Circuit, Raymond Terrace, just north of Newcastle.
