GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Net Solid Super X Results

22 Nov 2011

The 2011 Super X Championship drew to a close on Saturday Night with the GYTR Rockstar Yamaha duo of Luke Arbon and Sam Duncanson pushing to finish the season on a high note.

Luke Arbon has been the big improver over the Super X series and claimed a very respectable fourth place on the weekend in the Pro Lites class and locked down fifth overall in the championship. Arbon worked hard for his result, slipping to seventh at one stage in the race before rallying home to make some important passes and take fourth spot.

The round result also boosted him significantly in the championship standings, as Arbon entered the final round in eighth but ended up as equal fourth, fifth on a count back, after the final round was run. The top five championship result takes on more significance when his opening round 16th is taken into account. Since round two his results have been 6-9-3-4 as the 19 year old South Australian grew in confidence as the series went on.

“I had a pretty big crash in practice and my laps times after that weren’t so fast so I knew there was plenty I had to do if I wanted a good result tonight,” Arbon stated. “I then didn’t get such a good start but I muscled my way passed a few guys and was in the lead bunch early.”

“I made a few mistakes and let some riders by but around lap 10 I seemed to pick it up again and got back to fourth, so I am pretty happy about that.”

Sam Duncanson was also in need of a good result in the Under 19 class if he was any hope of landing on the podium in the championship standings. Duncanson started out fine in the afternoon practice and heats but didn’t get the start he needed in the all important final and could only manage sixth when the checkered flag fell.

That result left him in fourth for the series, just one point shy of a podium position.

“I got a terrible start in the main event and that cost me any chance of a good result. I’m just disappointed that I couldn’t get it done,” Duncanson fumed after the final.

Yamaha Junior Racings Billy Jackson claimed third at the final round of championship but that was just enough to secure him the series win in the 14-15 years Junior Division. Jackson has been a model of consistency throughout the series and his maturity surfaced again on the weekend where he did exactly what he needed to do to get the series win.

“I’m pumped,” Jackson said. “To win this is pretty cool and I have had such a great time doing the super X series. Thank you to Yamaha Junior Racing, our team sponsors and my family for their support as it is a team effort by everyone.”
