In Form Styke Takes Podium at SuperX Round Three

7 Nov 2011

Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Luke Styke hit the podium for the second time in the opening three rounds after taking third place at the Campbelltown round of the Monster Energy Super X over the weekend.

Styke’s main aim at the beginning of the series was to log top five results at each and every round and so far the Nowra based rider is right on track and the podium finish on the weekend was another sign of his growing maturity in racing.

The Pro Lites class contested the Triple Challenge format with the riders facing three, six lap races contested back to back. Styke compiled 2-3-4 results over the three races and nailed down third on the night and maintain his third place in the championship with two rounds remaining.

“I’m pretty happy with how I went,” Styke shrugged after racing. “My starts weren’t quite what they needed to be but I managed to stay clear of the first turn accidents, get by riders quickly and be in the lead pack each race.”

“I’m still on track with my goal to finish top five at each round and it’s nice to keep getting these podiums to reward the team for their hard work.”

Teammate Kirk Gibbs had a night he would rather forget dogged by bad luck. Gibbs charged into the first turn in race one only to be a victim in a four rider pile up. Race two and the outcome was much the same, only this time his race bike was bent beyond repair and had had to withdraw from that race and take to the spare bike for race three.

Gibbs battled on in race three to claim a seventh place but it was small consolation for the talented South Australian rider.

“It was just one of those nights were nothing went my way,” a dejected Gibbs said. “I did some good laps in qualifying and posted some good times but that didn’t show up in the main event as I struggled to get through the first turn.”

“Next week can’t come fast enough for me now as I’m desperate to get back out there and put things right.”

The Serco Yoshimura Yamaha squad now head for the Hunter Valley where round four takes place in Maitland.
