Marmont Extends Lead At Albury MX Nationals

28 Jun 2010

CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha’s Jay Marmont battled on bravely at round six of the Rockstar MX Nationals claiming third overall for the round, but more importantly, extend his lead in the Pro Open Championship.

Under clear blue skies and cool temperatures, Marmont put together three, top five moto scores for a very consistent day, taking third for the round and gaining another three points on his nearest rivals in the overall championship points.

With three rounds remaining, Marmont holds the lead and the coveted red plate by 16 points over UK rider Billy Mackenzie.

Marmont may not be in his devastating, race winning form of 2009, but his race craft, experience and dogged determination see him continually pilot his Yamaha YZ450 onto the podium at nearly every round and that consistency is paying off in the championship race.

“I want to win races and overall round victories but so far this year I haven’t been able to do that. But by consistently finishing inside the top five in each race and each round, I have been able to increase my points lead at the last two rounds.”

“It’s good to be back up on the podium again after Raymond Terrace, but it’s still not that way I should race. I was a bit tight in the first moto and made too many mistakes during the day. I will take some confidence from it, but realize that I must continue to work hard to win this championship for me and my team,” Marmont said.

Cheyne Boyd made the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team take up two of the top four spots by landing in fourth overall for the round. Boyd was always up the front and challenging for the top spots and continuing on his form revival that started at Raymond Terrace.

Like Marmont, Boyd’s 5-4-4 finishes were derived from well constructed racing and good lap speed and the points haul sees Boyd improve his position to fourth overall in the championship as well.

“I felt like I was right in the mix today, but just couldn’t get it over the line. I was always right in the heat of the battle and trying to make passes and move forward.”

“Overall, I am happy with the way I went, but with a little more intensity early in the race, I think I can continue to improve my results over the last few rounds,” said the experienced Boyd.

Team Owner Craig Dack also saw the fighting spirit in his team and while it wasn’t a day of domination, the team showed they are ready to kick and scream all the way to the final race at the final round at Coolum.

“It was a day where the guys really hard to work hard for their results and as a team we have 100% faith in Jay and Cheyne. Both riders are determined to fight this out all the way to the finish as both take enormous pride in their racing and results.”

“I think both guys are right on the cusp of being at their best and it’s the perfect time in the championship for them to put their best foot forward with only three rounds remaining,” Dack offers.

Round seven of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals heads for the north western New South Wales town of Moree on July 18. The CDR Rockstar Team will look to cash in the fighting spirit they have created and have a break out round.
