Milner Closes in On A4DE Victory

15 Aug 2014

A small trail section and the final motocross test are all that separates CDR Yamaha’s Daniel Milner from a third consecutive Australian 4 Day Enduro Championship after day three proceedings wrapped up at Dungog today.

Milner again logged another solid day, coming home second on the day but only losing a few seconds to his nearest rival, Toby Price. The CDR Yamaha pilot carries a 21 second lead into the final day but the job isn’t done yet and he will need to maintain focus all the way to the finish to secure his third A4DE crown.

Day three also proved to be another good day for Yamaha teams and riders. The blue brand has six bikes, on a range of models, inside the top nine with many riders in contention for class wins or podiums.

The final day features the final motocross test and with heavy rain forecast to fall from mid-morning, things could get ugly so the riders need to be on the game and ready for mud after days of dealing with dust.

E1- 250cc
After making his move on day two, Tom McCormack (Active8 Yamaha) consolidated his class lead on the YZ250F and holds a minute lead over his nearest challenger. McCormack struggled on the opening day but has since put in two impressive days of racing that sees him on top of the class and a very respectable seventh in outright honours.

E2- 450cc
Yamaha continues to have a strangle hold in the E2 division with Milner in front and a flock of Yamaha’s not far behind. Day one leader, Chris Hollis (CDR Yamaha) continues to turn in fine performance on his WR450F and sits third in both class and outright. He is still just under a minute behind Milner and still has a shot at the title if the cards fall his way in the final motocross test.

Josh Strang (Yamaha Australia) sits in fourth and just wasn’t able to gain ground on the leaders on day three. He has three world class riders ahead of him and running fourth in a field like this is still an impressive result. With his motocross background, expect Strang to excel in the final test.

Beau Ralston (Active8 Yamaha) continues to impress and sits sixth in class, but more amazingly, he is sixth outright. Ralston has showed he has what it takes to race at a high level in the off road world in 2014 and like Strang, the motocross test will be right up his alley.

Josh Green (Active8 Yamaha) hasn’t quite had the week he expected and seventh place isn’t a reflection of the talent Green possesses. He will be determined to redeem himself on the final day and see if he can make a last minute charge up the leader board.

E3 – Over 450cc
Stefan Granquist (Active8 Yamaha) hoods down third place on his WR475F and barring any major incidents, should remain in the final spot on the podium. He has a comfortable 19 second margin over the fourth placed riders and a well-constructed ride should see him pick up a podium position.

VETS – Over 35
Kirk Hutton is within striking distance of class leader, Damien Smith after three days of racing. Hutton clawed back some valuable time on day three, but will need to replicate that performance to hunter Smith down on the final day.

Emilie Karlsson closed up the gap between herself and the second placed rider on day three with now just one minute separating the pair. Like Hutton, she will need to make up the same amount of time again on day four to pinch second place but it’s not over yet and she will again give her all.

Jemma Wilson maintains her fourth place in the Women’s class after day three.
