Misfortune and Mishaps for Serco Yoshimura Yamaha

12 Apr 2011

The Serco Yoshimura Yamaha team endured a tough weekend at round three of the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals, held at Raymond Terrace, with all three riders battling the conditions and other riders in the hotly contested Pro Lites class.

Kirk Gibbs, Ford Dale and Jake Moss all had issues on the day but despite it all, Kirk Gibbs still remains in second place in the championship while Dale again showed flashes of brilliance and Moss took some steps forward in his recovery from injury.

Gibbs couldn’t buy a start at Raymond Terrace. With the sprint format and four motos in a day, good starts are imperative to a good result, and try as he might, Gibbs was chasing the pack all weekend. His consistent scores of 5-5-10-5 weren’t a true indication of the speed and determination Gibbs raced with.

“I have been saying it for a while now, but I need to get some starts,” Gibbs explains. “It’s no excuse as it’s up to me to make it happen but the short format really puts an emphasis on getting around the first corner in good position.”

“I know what I will be practicing before the next round,” Gibbs said.

Ford Dale on his day might be the fastest rider in the country but crashing or not finishing races seems to derail any momentum he tries to build. Dale was up front early in moto one before crashing, rode to a smart and well constructed second in moto two, experienced mechanical issues while leading race three and settled for a frustrating sixth in the final leg.
He finished the day in 11th spot and holds down ninth in the championship.

“I don’t know what to say. It is a weekend that I would like to forget and let’s just move onto the next round so I can go out there and redeem myself,” Dale says.

Jake Moss took small steps in his recovery earning points in all four motos and challenging the front runners early in most races until his time off the bike through injury took its toll. Moss claimed 12th for the round.

“For me, it’s not about results yet. It’s about regaining fitness and speed at a sensible rate and getting the track time to do it. I felt better today and came along way in the last week and now with nearly a month break before the next round, hopefully I can keep progressing at the same rate,” Moss said.

The Serco Yoshimura Yamaha team regathers at Murray Bridge in early May for round four of the MX Nationals where all three riders will be looking for an improved performance.
