Quinlan consolidates his sixth place in the series with a seventh at Launceston

Mixed Fortunes for GYTR Rockstar Yamaha in Tassie

1 Nov 2010

It was a night of mixed fortunes for the GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Team in Tasmania with Harley Quinlan posting another top 10 finish while team mate Luke Styke crashed heavily and was unable to finish the night.

Aurora Stadium in Launceston hosted round three of the Monster Energy Super X Championship where the Pro Lites riders faced the Double Header format with two twelve lap races. Under threatening skies, the track was in perfect condition and the GYTR Rockstar team was out to impress.

Harley Quinlan claimed a seventh in leg one and then a sixth place in moto two to finish seventh overall for the night. Quinlan worked hard for his results as he was forced to charge from the back of the field on both occasions and stay clear of trouble. The seventh place is his third top 10 result in succession and sees him consolidate sixth place in the series standings so far.

"My starts were a bit off and I couldn't get one of the tricky triples every lap, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with the way I went. I just focused on putting in my best laps for the entire race and I ended up with a reasonable result," Quinlan said at nights' end.

"To be running in the top six after three rounds is where I wanted to be and it’s nice to see all the hard work I do during the week starting to pay off," he finishes.

Unfortunately, the night didn't go as well for Luke Styke. After running up the front in his qualifying races, Styke was confident of a good result in the main events. A good start in final one saw him in the lead bunch but he miscued a tricky jump section and went down hard causing him to withdraw from the event.

Styke was taken to hospital for suspected broken ribs but has since been cleared and will be able to contest the next event in New Zealand.

"The rear wheel felt like it spun up on the take off ramp and the bike didn't have the momentum to clear the jump. Next thing I know I was on the deck and slammed by my own bike. I am pretty sore now but out of hospital and should be right to go for the Auckland round in two weeks," said Styke painfully.

The team now prepares for two rounds in New Zealand in consecutive weeks. Auckland and Dunedin will each host a round of Super X and the weekend off prior to the Auckland round should see both riders fit and ready to go.
