Joel Dinsdale adds another round and series win to his resume in 2010
Wilson Todd takes the win at Tivoli in a perfect performance

Perfect Weekend Caps Four Series Wins for QYJDT in SSMX

7 Jun 2010

The Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team scored a perfect 12 wins from 12 starts at the final round of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Series Motocross held at Tivoli Raceway, near Brisbane over the weekend.

With the track in its best condition in years and under warm winter skies, the perfect round score caps another successful series for the power house team of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd, taking four series wins in the four classes contested.

Joel Dinsdale (Bullet Bikes) is on a massive roll in 2010. Starting back at Easter at the opening round of the Queensland Motocross Championship, Dinsdale has gone on a winning spree taking all before him at every event he has entered since. He kept that momentum rolling along at Tivoli winning the 12 to 13 years 85cc on Saturday, then dominated the 13 to 14 years Lites on Sunday making it a perfect weekend for the Mackay flyer.

Dinsdale led both series classes comfortably going into the final round, but his superb performance over the weekend put the finishing touches on what has been an outstanding start to 2010.

“I just feel really good on the bike at the moment. For the first time since I have raced, my starts have been really good and it makes racing so much easier to be in front and ride my own race.”

“2010 has been great so far and my results have been a reflection of the effort the team, my parents and Bullet Bikes put in. I can’t thank everyone enough,” said Dinsdale.

Wilson Todd (Steve Hunt Motorcycles) was in no mood to be overshadowed by his older team-mate, so he matched everything Dinsdale could do. Todd owned the 9 to 11 years 85cc class taking three wins and backed that up with another three wins in the 10 to 12 years 65cc class.

Like Dinsdale, Todd also entered the final round with a good points’ margin of his nearest rivals after working hard in the early rounds. Todd has matured enormously over the course of the series and he now consistently produces well constructed races combined with race winning speed.

“I was never a fan of the Tivoli track, but the club did a great job of preparing it over the weekend. It was the best I have raced it and I had a great time out there. My plan was to be smart and do what it takes to win the series, but with the track so good, I just couldn’t help but go for it.”

“I want to thank the Queensland Yamaha Junior Development team for their support, Steve Hunt Motorcycles and my family for all the hard work this year,” the happy youngster states.

The dynamic duo now take a well earned rest from the long travel back and forwards from North Queensland to contest this series. Both riders will continue to race selected events in the lead up to the Australian Junior Motocross Championships on in September.

The team would also like to thank all partners involved in what is already a successful 2010.

Yamaha riders also dominated senior competition with Kirk Gibbs (Serco Yamaha) winning both Pro Open and Pro Lites classes. He just beat Ford Dale (Serco Yamaha) in the Lites on a count back, while Harley Quinlan (GYTR/ Rockstar Yamaha) had an all Yamaha podium locked down until a fall in the final stages of moto two dropped him back to fourth overall.

Shaun Redhead (GYTR/ Rockstar Yamaha) won the Intermediate Lites and came up a few points short of taking the series win despite only competing in four of the six rounds.

“Yamaha Queensland would like to congratulate all Yamaha riders on a strong showing in the 2010 Shell Advance Sunshine State Series. A huge pat on the back must go to both Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd who have performed amazingly well this year and take home some well deserved series wins. These two riders have a big future in front of them and Yamaha are proud to have them in our stable of racers,” offers Yamaha State Manager, Sam Fischmann.
