The Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd produced top shelf performances at round two of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Series held at Tivoli over the weekend and as a result rocketed to the top of the point standings after two rounds.

After a solid first round showing, both riders were determined to improve their results at round two and with overnight rain, a rutty and challenging track greeted the riders and made the men stand out from the boys in a top days racing.

Dinsdale hit the top step of the podium in the 13 to 14 years 250cc class with an impressive three wins from three starts on board his Yamaha YZ250F. Dinsdale holeshot every race, led every lap across the day on his 250 and looked extremely comfortable on what was a difficult track. He raced to convincing wins with a healthy margin over his nearest rivals.

He also hit the podium on his YZ125, but it wasn’t without some dramas. Race one and Dinsdale hit the lead before hitting the dirt. Race two and in a battle for the lead, a fallen lapped rider had Dinsdale taking evasion action and he leapt clean off the track to avoid the rider and nearly fell into a dam. Race three and it was a battle right to the end, with Dinsdale taking second. His 4-8-2 places landed him in third place for the round.

Dinsdale also leapt to the points lead in the 250 class and sits in third on the 125 after two rounds.

“It was hard work out there today,” the Mackay flyer said at the end of the day. “The track was tough and both my races were only 10 minutes apart so I jumped from bike to bike all day.”

“It was nice to get back on track on the 250 and ride the bike the way I should and the 125 was just fun. I love revving that thing and it’s just an exciting bike to ride,” Dinsdale finishes.

Atherton based Wilson Todd wasn’t going to be out done and set about matching the results of his team mate. Todd won the 12 to 15 years 85cc class with an impressive 1-1-2 day with only some late race fatigue stopping a clean sweep, as it was his sixth race of the day.

Todd also contested the 13 to 15 years 125 class and again showed his learning curve is steep as he graduates to the bigger bike. In only his second major event on the 125, Todd took an impressive seventh overall on the back of some very consistent rides. His seventh is four places better than the opening round and the 13 year old thinks he will continue to improve on the 125 with more seat time.

Todd now leads the 12 to 15 years 85cc class.

“Things worked out pretty well today. After round one, we got some dry weather at home and I was able to ride a bit more and even do a local race. I felt much better on the bike and with the school holidays on now, hopefully I can continue to ride and train and improve my racing,” Todd said after an exhausting day.

But there is little rest for the Yamaha Junior Racing team as they will meet again in a fortnights’ time for round three of the Sunshine State Series at Coolum.
