The Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing team finished off the eight round, Sunshine State Motocross Series with a powerhouse performance at the final round at Coolum over the weekend. The team ended up winning all three classes contested for the round and finished with two series wins and a second.

The duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd were in no mood for messing around and came out all guns blazing from the moment practice started and the pair racked up an impressive 12 wins in 12 races from the weekend to lock down the round and series wins.

Wilson Todd entered the last round with a handy 49 point lead in the 12 to U15years 85cc class and he put the series win to bed after winning the opening moto. Todd then went on to win the final two motos to stamp his authority on the day and the championship and lock another Sunshine State Series win up for the talented North Queenslander.

He also competed well on his YZ125 and was right in the running for another podium finish. Todd took 2-6-4 moto results on the day for fourth overall. With less than a lap to run in moto two and Todd in third place, a lapper fell directly in front of him and he was left with no option other to hit the fallen riders’ bike and go down himself. It was the only blemish in an otherwise outstanding display.

“I gota say, I was pretty mad when the guy went down in front of me on the 125. But, it was good to win on the 85cc and the track today was really good. The club did a great job.

“Also thank you to all the clubs and organisers of the series and also to Yamaha Junior Racing for the awesome support,” Todd ends.

Joel Dinsdale finished off his series on the perfect note winning all six races he entered on the day. He cleaned up the 15 years 250cc class for the round win and already had the series win in the nag after the penultimate round a fortnight ago.

His real challenge lay in the 13 to 15 years 125cc class where he was 20 points down on fellow Yamaha rider, Nathan Crawford, and needed a minor miracle to make up the points gap. Dinsdale failed to finish four races throughout the series and was scrambling for points at the final rounds.

He did all he could and won all three races in convincing fashion but Crawford held steady to win the series by six points over Dinsdale.

“It would have been nice to win the series on the 125 but the goal was really to ride and race the way I should and not really worry about the series. I’m happy with how I rode both bikes today and felt strong all day.

“We have a bit of break now with no major races on for a while so it’s time to head back to Mackay and get started on my preparation for the Australian championships in October,” Dinsdale said.

Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing now has a short break in racing commitments for the end of season races hit with the Australian Championships and supercross among them. It’s been another successful campaign from the team who wish to thank their many supporters and sponsors for the 2012 season.
