Wilson Todd in top form over the weekend winning

After winning all nine races at round three of the Sunshine State series, the Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing Team was out to duplicate that success at round four of the championship held at Leyburn Park, west of Toowoomba over the weekend.

And they nearly pulled it off, with the combined race tally for Wilson Todd and Nathan Crawford totalling eight race wins and an eighth place in another outstanding weekend by the young guns of Queensland motocross.

Wilson Todd led the charge over the weekend with easily his best performance to date. Todd was in scintillating form winning all six races he entered and dominated the 13-15 years 125cc class as well as the 13-14 years 250cc.

On the 125, he won races coming from behind and he won races after taking the holeshot. He was the complete package as he trashed his way around the sandy based Leyburn Park track.

Todd now has a commanding lead on his 250F, while he has a small points advantage over his team mate in the highly competitive 125cc division.

“I loved the track today and it was a lot of fun to ride,” said the quietly spoken Todd. “The corners formed up really nicely and you could really lay the bike into them.”

“This is the first time I have won all the races since I have raced the bigger bikes, so that’s pretty cool to,” he said.

Team mate Nathan Crawford compiled another solid days’ racing finishing second in both the 13-15 years 125cc and also the 15 years 250cc. Crawford shadowed Todd all day on the 125 but was never close enough to threaten a pass and was forced to settle for second with 2-2-2 results.

Despite two crashes during the opening 250cc moto, Crawford rebounded from the eighth place finish in moto one to win the final two races to snatch second overall. Both falls in the first race occurred when he collided with other riders while challenging for position but the big positive for the day was to regain focus for the final two races and take the wins when required.

“Wilson rode really well today on the 125 and I wasn’t able to really get in a battle with him. On the 250, the first moto wasn’t real flash but the last two were pretty good and to finish second on both bikes after a day like that, isn’t a bad result, I guess,” Crawford explains.

The next round of the Sunshine State Motocross Series is the rescheduled opening round at Coolum that was washed out earlier in the year on May 25/26. Both QLD YJR riders are in great shape as the series hits the halfway point.
