QLD - YJR Triumph at Tivoli SSMX

28 May 2012

Queensland Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd bounced back to their best form with a successful weekend at Tivoli Raceway for round six of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Motocross Series over the weekend.

Dinsdale topped both the 13 to 15 years 125cc and the 15 years 250cc division while Wilson Todd took out the 12 to 15 years 85cc class giving QLD YJR three class wins from three contested in a great weekends racing for the team.

Mackay based Joel Dinsdale is back to full fitness after sustaining an ankle injury at the last round and was look to reassert himself back at the top of Queensland junior motocross. He came out firing on all cylinders in the 15 years 250cc class winning all three motos comfortably on his YZ250F to win the day and extend his points lead in the series.

His day on the 125 also went well as he also claimed the round win on the back of his 1-4-1 results. The fourth place finish in race two was due to a crash in the second corner where he picked up in next to last place. He then tore through the pack on his way to fourth in the short six lap sprint.

Dinsdale now sits second in the series, only 22 points from the lead, despite not scoring points in four races out of the 15 races contested so far.

“Today was the best I have felt on the bike for a while,” Dinsdale said. “I upped my riding and training at home over the past few weeks and really wanted to put in a good effort today to see where I was at.”

“It’s good to win both classes again and I felt I was riding at the level I should be without taking too many risks.”

Wilson Todd always puts in 100% and races with a never say die attitude. The Atherton based teenager again logged six good motos over the weekend and was rewarded with a good points haul.

Todd won the 12 to 15 years 85cc class with his 1-2-2 finishes. His speed in attacking the Tivoli whoops was impressive has he charged his way towards the front. He also extends his lead in the series on the 85 and is well placed with two rounds remaining.

Todd also featured in the 13 to 15 years 125cc class taking fourth overall in a star studded field. His 4-5-4 results were impressive as Todd mixed it up with the big names in the class and battled all the way to the finish. He consolidated fourth place in the series.

“I was determined to have a good weekend and race well here at Tivoli,” Todd said. It’s not my favourite track so I just wanted to get a good result here and show myself that I could race alright here and I’m pretty happy with how it all went.”

There at two rounds remaining in the series with Leyburn Park and Coolum the venues for the final rounds. The QLD – YJR team will be looking to finish out the series strongly and add some more trophies to the mantle-piece.
