Joel Dinsdale on his way to claim round 1 at Coolum

QYJDT off to a Flyer in 2010

Queensland's Yamaha Junior Development Team (QYJDT) fired the first shots of 2010 with a double barreled attack taking three class wins and a fourth place at the opening round of the Shell Advance Sunshine State Motocross Series held on the Sunshine Coast over the weekend.

A hot, humid day and an extremely rough track made the junior tear-aways work hard for their placings but Wilson Todd and Joel Dinsdale showed they had put in the hard yards during the off season were rewarded for their efforts.

Joel Dinsdale (Bullet Bikes) over came a nervous start in the opening 12 to 13 years 85cc class where he crashed twice to finish eighth but rebounded strongly in the next two motos to take commanding wins and claim the overall win for the day. Dinsdale man handled his YZ85 around the Coolum circuit and is in great shape entering the new season.

He backed that up with a top performance on his YZ125 taking fourth overall in the 13 to 14 years Lites class. Despite water logged conditions, Dinsdale showed great speed and will be a major treat to the leaders as the series progresses.

“Its always pretty cool to start the year with a win. 2009 wasn't my best year because of injury, so I'm determined to turn that around and this is a great start. The next race is in Roma and I can't wait,” said the enthusiastic racer.

Wilson Todd (Steve Hunt MC) took an impressive victory in the 9 to 11 years 85cc class with 1-1-2 finishes in the three point scoring races. With less than a month to prepare after a serious shoulder injury that had him off the bike for nearly three months, Todd rode with plenty of heart and smarts to win the day and prove he is the man to beat in this class.

Todd also double classed and won the 10 to 12 years 65cc division as well. He carded 2-1-2 results to sit comfortably on top of the table at the day's end.

“I just started riding in the middle of January, so I wasn't really sure where I was at. I didn't feel the best on the bike, but that will come back with some more ride time. I am going to head home and get plenty of practice before the next round,” Todd said.

The team also debuted their new AXO gear for the first time. QYJDT welcomes Ficeda Imports to the team and the riders looked great circulating in their quality AXO products.

Round two takes the riders to Roma on February 20 / 21. The 2010 Sunshine State Motocross Series is over six rounds and has been Australia's most well attended, longest running and high profile motocross series.
