QYJDT Rack Up Three More State MX Championships

26 Apr 2010

The Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team put the finishing touches on a sensational 2010 Queensland Motocross Championship claiming the round win in three classes and taking home three more State Championships to add to the mantle-piece.

Roma in central western Queensland held the third and final round of the Yamaha Queensland Motocross Championships over the Anzac weekend and the dynamic duo of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd kept on their winning ways and were the dominant team at this years championship.

Joel Dinsdale (Bullet Bikes) has turned in a series that is nothing less the extraordinary. Competing in the 12 to 13 years 85cc, Dinsdale kept his perfect championship intact and took another three wins from three starts and in the process won every race he contested in the championship for a perfect 225 points.

And as if that wasn’t enough, he logged another three straight wins in the 13 to 14 years Lites class on his YZ250F, making it eight race wins from nine motos and lock down another championship for the Mackay flyer.

With his perfect race record, Joel also becomes the number 1 plate junior rider in Queensland for 2011 as he amassed the most points of any junior rider in the state throughout the championship.

“To win 17 races out of 18 in this championship was way more than I ever expected. My goal is always to win, but to do this well… I am not really sure what to say.”

“I had a big crash yesterday in practice, but I was able to refocus on racing and get the job done.”

“A huge thank you to my Mum and Dad for everything they do for me, the Queensland Yamaha Junior team and our sponsors and Bullet Bikes in Mackay who have supported my for so long, Dinsdale said.

Not to be out done, Wilson Todd (Steve Hunt Motorcycles) decided it was his turn to rack up a state championship. Despite a heavy fall in practice, Wilson toughed it out for a fourth in moto one, a win in moto two and the stage was set for a nail biting finish to the championship with three riders all within a handful of points going into the final moto.

Todd stayed calm, pulled into the lead by the second turn and rode away to take the race victory and the championship win in the 9 to 11 years 85cc. It was a great ride under pressure for the Mareeba based rider who showed great maturity throughout the series.

Todd also claimed third for the round in the 10 to 12 years 65cc class, which netted him second overall for the championship.

“The 85 class is the one I really wanted to win and I am pretty happy now that I have done it. I made hard work of it by finishing fourth in that first race, but I was able to win the final two races and get the championship.”

“Thanks to the Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team, Steve Hunt Motorcycles and my parents,” Wilson finishes.

Other Yamaha riders tasting success in the Queensland Championships were Jackson Richardson who took the win in the 13 to 15 years 150cc two stroke class on his YZ144. Dylan Hickling came in third on his YZ125 in the same class. Alex Rooke took second in the 14 to 15 years 85cc on his YZ85cc.

“Yamaha Queensland congratulates all Yamaha riders on a successful championship campaign. Yamaha won six of the nine classes contested, both junior and senior, in what was a sensational effort and the most class wins by any manufacturer.

“A special mention must go to Joel Dinsdale for his efforts in this championship. To win as many races as he did is simply amazing and a perfect reward for the hard work and dedication that Joel and his family put in,” says Yamaha state manager, Sam Fischmann.

The focus of QYJDT now shifts back to the Sunshine State Series with round four happening this weekend at Toowoomba’s Echo Valley circuit. Both Joel and Wilson will be looking to continue on their winning ways.
