QYJDT Stake Claim For QLD MX Champs

5 Apr 2010

The Queensland Yamaha Junior Development Team (QYJDT) spent their Easter weekend in Mareeba, west of Cairns in Far North Queensland, contesting the opening round of the Yamaha Queensland Motocross Championships. The pair of Joel Dinsdale and Wilson Todd came away with two class victories, stood on the podium in two others and downing a few Easter eggs for their troubles.

Joel Dinsdale (Bullet Bikes) led the charge and recorded round wins in the 12 to 13 years 85cc class and also the 13 to 14 years Lites. Dinsdale won five out of the six motos contested, taking all three race wins on his YZ85cc and only dropped the first moto on the YZ250F to take 3-1-1 results and claim his second overall win for the weekend.

It was a dominant performance from Dinsdale, who since taking on the team leader role has stepped up his racing to a new level and is enjoying the new responsibility. He is also enjoying the new YZ250F and this was Joel’s debut performance on the four stroke machine and he handled it like a true professional.

“I had a pretty good weekend, huh? Joel understates. “I love riding the 250, it’s such a cool bike to ride and I haven’t really spent much time on it, but it just felt perfect the moment I got on it. It made switching back to the 85cc a bit harder, but that’s cool,” Dinsdale states.

Wilson Todd (Steve Hunt Motorcycles) was also prominent in the results taking second in the 9 to 11 years 85cc and the same result in the 10 to 12 years 65cc. The north Queensland local worked hard all weekend for his results and although not taking a class win, he is extremely well placed to take the fight up at the remaining two rounds of the championship.

Todd took 1-2-2 results in the 85cc class and is just a few points behind the leader with plenty of points still up for grabs at the remaining two rounds.

“I really wanted to win at my home race and I was so close to doing it. But with six races still to go on each bike, there is plenty of racing left and winning the championship at the end is what really matters,” explains the mature 11 year old.

Round two of the championship will be contested at Dysart in Central Queensland this coming weekend. Both QYJDT riders will be looking to continue their good form from the opening round and consolidate their position on the points table.
