SA-YJR Continue Podium Rush at State MX Champs

Round two of the South Australian Motocross Championships were held at the Port Augusta motocross track this past weekend and with rain leading into the event, the track was in prime condition for racing on the red sands.

The club did an amazing job on getting the track prepared and it turned out to be one of the roughest tracks for the junior competitors to test their skills on. The SA-YJR boys were in fine form and all landed podium results yet again.

Nick Day, on board his YZ250F and YZ125, once again showed his dominance in both the classes he contested taking all three moto wins in the 250F class and using consistent 2-1-2 results to land him with the overall win in the 125cc field.

Nick leads the field in both classes after two rounds.

"I was really happy to win all the races on the 250. I made a few mistakes on the 125 which cost me from sweeping the class which I really wanted to keep alive. I am still pumped to win both classes and extend my lead in the championships," said Day.

Young gun Alex Larwood swept both 9-U12yrs 85cc and 10-U13yrs 65cc classes taking all six moto wins on the way to a perfect days racing. Coming into the round with a small injury to his shoulder he was determined that he was still going to perform to his best.

"I am so happy today! I got good starts and rode smart. The track was awesome and I had a fun days racing," said young Alex.

Thomas Larwood again showed that he is on the move up in the12-U16yrs 85cc field. With good starts and riding with the confidence from round one, Thomas took 2-5-2 results for another solid third on the day.

"I'm really happy with my podium result today. I got good starts in all my races and I led a few laps which was great but now I've had a taste I want more and my goal is to win a race," said Thomas.

Team Manager Shane Metcalfe was once again really happy with the boys’ performances.

"All three lads did awesome today. Nick rode well but and despite making a couple of mistakes he was still able to take out both overalls for the day which was great. Thomas again rode great. This field is probably the most contested field out of all the classes so he is doing really well. Young Alex came in nursing an injury but he rode great and kept his heels clean. Another great days racing by the boys", said Metcalfe.

The next round of SA MX is set to be held at the Murray Bridge Motocross Track on the 26/27th July.
