With round one of the SA MX Titles held at the Gillman MX track this past weekend, the weather looked like it was going to put a real dampener on the series kick off with heavy rain, hail and cold winds. The track was extremely muddy and a revised schedule was run in order to create great racing. Nick Day lined up on board his YZ125cc and YZ250F, Thomas Larwood on the YZ85LW and Alex Larwood on his YZ85SW and 65cc machines.

Nick set the standard from the first lap of practice on both bikes and he showed up ready to race. He rode awesome all day long taking out all 6 races across both bikes. He didn't get the best of starts all day but his skills and patience on the muddy track really shone through.

"The track was a total mud pit in the first practice but it turned out to be challenging and fun to ride. I didn't get great starts today but worked really hard early to get up front so I could get out of the roost. My bikes handled the condition unreal and I'm pumped to win all 6 races today,” said a happy Day.

Thomas Larwood moved up this season to the 12-Under 16yrs Big Wheel 85cc class. He had a solid and consistent day in the muddy conditions, taking 4-3-3 results to finish third overall in his first major race in the class.

"My aim was to come top five for round 1 and I was able to do that. I had some great starts which really helped me achieve this result so I'm pumped with this result. I can't wait for the next round now," Thomas said.

Alex Larwood was in no mood for mucking around and after finishing 2nd to Brother Thomas last year, Alex came into this race very confident. Alex won all six of his races comfortably in the trying conditions and looked great out on the track.

"I loved the track conditions today, it was sick and a real test. My bikes ran awesome and handled the rough and muddy conditions great, big thanks to all the sponsors,” stated young Alex.

Team Manager Shane Metcalfe was really impressed by his young chargers.

"All the hard work the boys have put in over the off season has really paid off. Nick rode awesome, the most confident I have ever seen him ride. Thomas did a great job. He has been working on his starts and he got three beauties today and rode solid to take third. Alex rode incredible and he didn't put a foot wrong all day. I am very proud of the boys today, four class wins and all on the podium,” said Metcalfe.

The next round of SA MX is set to be held at the Port Augusta Motocross Track on the 31st May/1st June.
