Izak Maule on the gas in 2012

SA-YJR Take Control in State MX Champs

30 May 2012

The SA-YJR team headed to Renmark for round two of the South Australia Motocross championships where the weather was overcast and dark but SA-YJR team shone brightly. The loamy soil combined with a jump filled track made for a perfect weekends racing.

Since the last round Izak Maule suffered a broken collarbone but since had it plated and is back riding again. Coming into this round he had only spent two weeks on the bike and was nervous all the hard work he had done pre-season may have slipped away.

But as soon as the gate dropped in moto one it was clear that he hadn’t lost anything. With a mid-pack start, he diced his way through the pack and took the race win.

Then the next biggest worry was riding the two classes (125cc and 250F), would his fitness hold up? After four convincing moto wins across the first two rounds of racing things were looking pretty good. A couple of errors in the last round kept him from cleaning sweeping the day but he was well satisfied taking the win on the 250 with 1-1-4 results and 1-1-2 results on his 125. He managed to take both overall wins and build on his points leads.

“I am so happy to win both classes today. I am a bit bummed that I couldn’t get a perfect six from six but now I will try and win each round instead. I felt that my fitness has dropped off a little so I will work on that,” said a very happy Izak.

Oscar Maule has also been working really hard since the last round and really wanted to come here and stamp his name on the title. His starts have been the biggest let down to date, however he has been working really hard on them and charged out of the gate in moto one in third spot, got the lead quickly and never looked back. He then took the next two holeshots and ran away with it taking a perfect three from three on his YZ85.

He really put on a display and with 40+ second leads he really proved a point this weekend to the rest of the field. On a track that was really rutted out, he barely put a foot wrong in a break out performance.

"I felt good coming into this race. I’ve been practicing hard and feeling great on the bike. I’m pumped with my starts as they had been something I had practiced during the week,” commented Oscar after racing.

The next event for the team will be round three of the championships held at Crystal Brook on the 16th/17th of June.
