SAYJR Finish State Champs with a Bang

6 Aug 2013

The final round of the South Australian Motocross Championships rolled into Murray Bridge this past weekend and with overcast and windy weather forecast the track was set to be in great shape. As always, the Murray Bridge club delivered another awesome track and the racing was first class.

With the injured Oscar Maule out with a broken arm, the team was down to two. Nick Day and Thomas Larwood flew the SA – YJR flag and put in a great effort.

Nick Day really showed he has been working hard since the previous round. Nick exploded into action and took the first moto of the day on board his YZ250F. He then backed that up taking six wins from six starts across the 125cc and 250F classes in a near perfect weekend.

He claimed the championship victory in the 13-15 years 125cc class and placed second overall in the 13-15 years 250cc division and caps of a good year for Day.

"I am so pumped to finish the series off like this. I felt good today and my bikes ran awesome," said a very happy Day. ”The SA- YJR team have been awesome this year and I have had my best results since joining them so I can’t thank Shane and our team of sponsors enough.”

Thomas Larwood also jumped out to an awesome start to the day, grabbing the holeshot in moto one and taking control. Thomas was going for the clean sweep like his older teammate but a small spin out in the final moto saw him dinted his perfect plans and he finished the day with 1-1-2 results  which gave him the round win and also the championship victory in the 9 to 11 years 85cc.

I really wanted to finish the championship well and my aim was to win every race. I made a mistake in the last one, but I’m still so happy to win the round. This is my second state title and it feels good so thanks to my family and the SA-YJR team for their support this year," said young Larwood.

Team Manager Shane Metcalfe pulled the YZ450F out to play on the loamy Murray Bridge circuit. After a season of battling injury, Metcalfe was finally 100% fit and ready to race, showing some of the old brilliance that made him a professional racer in years gone by.

"Today was awesome as it was the first time all year I felt ready to race. I had a bit of a mishap in moto one which saw me in a tyre wall, but from then on I had a great day and for me it’s not about the results anymore, just about having fun and helping my team riders improve.

“I want to congratulate both Nick and Thomas for their great efforts and also a speedy recovery to Oscar," said Metcalfe.

For the SAYJR team the next race will be at the Australian Junior Nationals to be held at Horsham in late September.
