VIC YJR Battle the Elements in State MX Champs

8 May 2014

Round two of the Victoria Junior Motocross Championships took place at the Swann Hill circuit over the past weekend with competitors greeted with rain and freezing conditions.

The format saw 125cc action take place on Saturday, while the 250cc bikes hit the track on Sunday and despite the conditions, the action on the track was hot.

Cody Dyce came into the round full of confidence after a fine third place at the MX National’s Rookie cup a few weeks prior at Appin in NSW and was looking to build on his good start at the opening round.

Cody's day started rough with a shocking start in moto one but he work hard for the entire moto to charge back to a well-earned 6th place finish. He bounced back strongly in the last two motos of the day, taking an impressive race win in moto two and then a second place in the final leg which gave him second overall for the round.

After two rounds, he holds down second place in the 13-15 years 125cc championship.

Angus had a day he would like to forget with bad starts and small mistakes making his day a tough pill to swallow. Angus finished 12th overall for the day but was determined to redeem himself the following day.

Day two saw much nicer conditions although still very cold but no rain. Angus was determined to put Saturday behind him and he did just that getting better with every race, results of 7-6-5 showing this and fourth for the day was his reward.

"Saturday was one of those days I would like to forget,” Angus said. "I need to spend more time on my 125 as it takes a different style of riding to go fast on it. At least Sunday my starts were on point and I felt stronger every race with race three easily my best for the weekend."

Cody came into round two equal first on the 250 so was super keen to keep his YZ250F up the pointy end. A small fall in race one and then a serious of bad starts meant was playing catch up all day. His results of 16-4-4 and sixth overall was not up to his own high standards. He now sits in third place in the championship.

"I was really happy with my riding on my 125, bike was running great but starts let me down. Sunday wasn’t as good and I struggled to get off the concrete on the start and it’s something I need to improve. I know I can do better so I can’t wait for round three,” Cody said.

Team Manager Cameron Taylor was on hand to witness the boys in action.
"Both boys showed a lot of heart this weekend. Angus had such a tough Saturday but bounced back to ride great on his more familiar 250. Cody showed great speed once again and sometimes it easy to forget he is one of the youngest in the class."

The riders now look forward to round three in their chase of the championship. For a full list of results, www.mylaps.com
