VIC – YJR Fight on at Outtrim

15 Jun 2012

Round three of Victorian Junior Motocross Championships was held the past weekend at the Korumburra clubs, Outtrim motocross track. The Victorian YJR squad have had some great race meetings between rounds of Vic. championships with some wins and podiums in nearly all races contested so the boys were all very keen to continue their great form.

Unfortunately, Wade Kirkland was out for the weekend with a shoulder injury from a practice fall but Jed Beaton returned after a long stint on the sidelines. The weekends’ forecast was for wet conditions and the weather gods were not going to be kind.

Saturday saw Cody Dyce compete in the Small Wheel 85cc class and Matt Hopkins-Talty on his 250F in the A grade division and he was ready to battle the conditions.

Cody had three steady rides with some great starts and leading several laps throughout the day. A few small falls in the mud proved costly for Dyce and his results of 2-3-2 landed him second overall for the round.

Matt knew starts would be key in these conditions and he got off to a great in race one but the sloppy conditions saw Matt falling a number of times. Races two and three were better with Matt coming home with DNF-12-8 for a day to forget but experience for Day two would be valuable.

Sunday morning and the team were greeted with similar but improving conditions. Matt was back again for more and Jed Beaton had his second race for 2012 after a broken back in February and was raring to go.

Jed had a great day getting better and more confident with each ride. He improved throughout the day and his day was highlighted by a strong second place finish in the final moto. Jed finished with 7-4-2 for third overall.

Matt started Sunday off with a great start and a race win in the 250cc A grade race but his day ended early when he fell awkwardly resulting in a suspected fractured wrist and unable to compete for the remainder of the round.

Team Manager Cameron Taylor said, “All three boys showed great spirit and showed their YZ's belonged at the front of the pack. I really look forward to round four and hopefully having all four riders on deck and competing at 100%.
