VIC YJR Off To A FLYER

12 Mar 2014

Yamaha Junior Racing Victorian duo of Angus Gelly and Cody Dyce recently had their first hit out of 2014 at the opening round of Shell Advance Gippsland Centre Championships at the Blue Rock Circuit in Moe.

Dyce returns to the team for the third year while promising new recruit, 14 year old Angus Gelly, was making his debut for the teamand both were looking to start the year strongly.

Cody has stepped up to the 125 class for 2014 after dominating the series in 2013 on his YZ85. He has been putting in the hard work needed to step up to the bigger bike in the off season with particular attention paid to his fitness and was hoping for it to come to the fore at the opening round.

Dyce had a perfect weekend, with three race starts and three comfortable race wins, including some good starts, to show all his competition he means business. It was just the start to the year Dyce was after and a good reward for his off season work.

Cody lined up again on Sunday to race the 13-15yrs Junior lites class, a new addition to the program in 2014 that allows 125 and 250cc machine to compete together. Dyce was again YZ125 mounted and proved that he and his 125 were up for the task taking more relatively easy race wins.

"What a great way to start the year!” Dyce offered. “I have worked my butt off in the off season to step up to the bigger bikes and I had a ball this weekend. My YZ was hauling up the hills, so a big thanks to Powelly at SPMX and all our team sponsors," he ends.

YJR newest racer Angus Gelly was doing double duty for the year on his YZ125 and 250F. Angus was fighting his nerves but started the day with a massive holeshot on his 2014 YZ250F but a first lap fall had him playing catch-up, finally coming home 7th in race one. Angus' day would improve from there coming home with 7-3-3 results for second overall.

Angus has never raced a 125 in competition before so this day would be a learning curve for him. He did well to record 6-6-4 finishes for a hard fought sixth overall in a very competitive class.

"Today was a little up and down and I was super nervous this morning which didn’t help. As the day went on I got stronger but have a few things I need to improve on. It’s great to be part of the team and the support on the day was awesome so I can't wait for round two,” Gelly said.

Both boys gave me plenty to smile about today,” explains Team manager, Cameron Taylor. “Cody was in a class of his own all weekend and Angus did really well for his first day on our team. I think he will improve every race and together both riders look set for a good year."
