The Victorian Yamaha Junior Development Team (VYJDT) has been decimated with mid season injuries to both Matthew Hopkins- Talty and Sam Martin. Both riders have taken nasty falls in the past couple of weeks and the team now has Joel Milesevic as the last man standing as they entered round three of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships at Swan Hill on the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

It was Milesevic’s (Peter Stevens Geelong) first time to the Swan Hill circuit and he took some time to adapt to the new track. On board his Yamaha YZ144, Joel improved as the day went on finishing the three motos in 4-6-2 positions, good enough for third overall in the 13 to 16 years 150cc two stroke class. His lap times were among the fastest only a small crash in moto two prevented him from finishing further up the order.

“It has been a tough couple of weeks for the riders,” states Team Manager, Rosco Holden. “Both guys were on the gas and looking forward to the Swan Hill event. But, the focus has now changed and they must recover and be ready for round four where hopefully we can get some good results,” he finishes.

Hopkins-Talty (K & J Motorcycles) will be out for the next six weeks as he recovers from a broken left wrist while Sam Martin (Peter Stevens Ferntree Gully) will be out for a similar period as he suffered a broken right wrist in the lead up to the event.  

With a big break in the State championships rounds, both riders should be fit and ready for round four in early August. But they will miss several regional races as they recover.
