Matthew Hopkins Talty returned from injury and is back on the gas

VYJDT Tackle Outrim Gippsland Series

24 Aug 2010

The Victorian Yamaha Junior Development Team (VYJDT) was presented with cool conditions and occasional showers at the well presented Outrim circuit for round six of the Shell Advance Gippsland Motocross Series.

The three rider team turned in a mixed bag of results with the series leader Joel Milesevic coming home fifth overall in the 150 class and two behind teammate Sam Martin in third. Sam backed up his podium finish on the 150cc with a fourth place on his 250F while Matthew Hopkins-Talty is starting to find his speed again after an eight week layoff with injury.

Matthew Hopkins-Talty (K & J Motorcycles) had a solid day with 6-6-3 finishes for fifth overall in the hotly contested 12/16 yrs A grade 85cc class. Missing two rounds due to his wrist injury has hurt his chances for a top 3three result in the series but with two rounds to go he is hoping to climb up the leader board from his current ninth position.

With Matthew just celebrating his 13th birthday a few weeks ago he has time on his side and is already mixing it up with the some of the more experienced, older riders in the class and the Kilmore Kid is on his way up.

Joel Milesevic (Peter Stevens Geelong) had an eventful day by his standards in the A grade 150cc class. Joel logged 4-9-5 results for fifth overall yet still manages to hang onto the series lead.

Joel just had a day at the office that he would rather forget and didn’t have his usual attack and push forward approach happening, but rest assured he will be working hard to return to form in the near future.

Sam Martin (Peter Stevens Ferntree Gully) is also coming back after an eight week layoff from injury and was immediately in the thick of the action in the A Grade 150cc class. Going 3-3-2 netted him third for the round and a few points closer to the lead in the championship while a fall in the final moto of the 250cc class cost him a podium finish. His 2-1-14 scores were good enough for fourth overall for the round and Sam maintains second place in both championship classes he contests.
