VYJR's Billy Jackson posted third for the opening round and looking to improve before the series ends

Yamaha Junior Racing Blast off In Victorian MX Champs

6 Apr 2011

The Victorian Yamaha Junior Racing team kicked off the 2011 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships in fine style taking a round victory and a podium position as the series roared to life at Cobram over the weekend.

Joel Milosevic lead the charge taking an impressive three wins from three starts on his YZ144 in the ‘A Grade’ 150cc two stroke division. The Ballarat based rider was in devastating form dominating the class and looked to be in a league of his own. He amassed 75 points and already has a handy 19 point lead in the four round championship.

Billy Jackson represents the team in the ‘A Grade’ 250cc class and rounded out the day in third place. His 2-7-3 positions were a solid showing, the only blemish being a fall in race two dropping him to seventh. The points are tight in this class and there is ample time for Jackson to mount his charge.

Matthew Hopkins Talty worked double time as he contested both the ‘A Grade’ 85cc and the ‘A Grade’ 150cc two stroke divisions. Hopkins- Talty finished a respectable fifth on the 85cc bike with consistent 4-5-6 positions while he took eighth overall on his YZ125 in a hotly contested field.

“The boys are off to a good start for our state titles,” says team manager, Ross Beaton. “Joel was on fire and made sure everyone knew that he is the man to beat in the class. Billy did a good job, just a fall in race two and some race intensity cost him but I’m confident he will bounce back at the next round.”

“As for Matt, he is a young guy in a tough class just learning the ropes so to finish where he did is a good sign. With more time on the 125 he will be right with the lead pack and I think if he continues to improve he will surprise plenty of people.”
