YJR Dominate QLD MX Champs

1 Jul 2013

The Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Nathan Crawford and Wilson Todd dominated proceedings at the Yamaha Queensland Motocross Championships held in tropical Townsville. Out of the 12 races contested over the weekend the pair won all 12, winning the 15 years 250cc, 13-14 years 250cc and a 1-2 finish in the 13-15 years 125cc.

Under clear blue skies and balmy winter weather, the Yamaha squad continued their already successful 2013 campaign.

Nathan Crawford took all four race wins in the 15 years 250cc and leaves his last year as a junior racer with the Queensland number 1 plate. Crawford was in top form throughout the three day event, charging through the pack or taking wire to wire wins over some good competition.

Wilson Todd matched the efforts of his team mate in the 13 – 14 years 250cc also winning each of the four races in convincing fashion. Todd took control of each race in the early going and was a cut above his rivals.

But both riders were pitted together in the 13-15 years 125cc and like every other event this year, the pair produced some great racing. Todd won the first moto, Crawford bounced back for wins in races two and three, with Todd taking the last one. The only result separating the pair was a fall in race three for Todd saw him finish that race in third place and as a result Crawford took his second championship with 2-1-1-2 scores just two points over Todd with 1-2-3-1 results.

“That wasn’t easy,” stated Crawford at the end of the weekend. “The track dried quickly and it was really slippery so not only was it hard to race, it was easy to make a mistake and go down.

“Wilson rode awesome and made me ride to my limits on the 125. We have had some great battles this year and our speed is the same at nearly every track. The 250 was good too as I had to ride with my head and not end up on the ground.

“To win both championships is unreal and I can’t thank everyone from Yamaha Junior Racing and our sponsors enough. My Dad couldn’t be here this weekend but he puts in a huge effort into my racing and these results are for him also.”

Todd also praised his teammate in a great show of sportsmanship.

“Congratulations to Nato on his win on the 125. It came down to who ever made the least mistakes and he got through the weekend without any issues so he deserves the championship.

“This is my first year on the250 and I love riding it. I never expected the results I’m getting on it and every time I ride a different track I learn something new.

“It’s been a great year so far and the Yamaha Junior Racing team has been awesome. I have been with them for nearly five years now and every year it keeps getting better. I also owe my parents and family a big thank you for their support of my racing,” Todd ends.

Yamaha also fared well in senior competition with Joel Dinsdale picking up the number two plate in the Queensland Pro Lites Championship, while it was a Yamaha brat pack filling positions three through six in the Pro Opens.

Despite suffering from the flu, Dinsdale took it right up to Kirk Gibbs in the opening laps of the Pro Lites event. Dinsdale stuck right on Gibbs until the halfway point of each moto where Gibbs was finally able to break free. Dinsdale claimed second with 3-2-2-2 results over the weekend.

North Queensland’s Luke Weaver took an impressive third place in the Pro Open event with some solid racing all weekend. He lead home a fleet of Yamaha’s with Robbie Marshall, Sam Duncanson and Jesse O’Farrell taking fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The next event for the Queensland based riders is the final round of the Sunshine State Series at Tivoli in Brisbane in two weeks’ time.
