Yamaha Junior Racing Queensland teamsters of Wilson Todd and Joel Dinsdale performed well at the Wonthaggi round of the MX Nationals. Junior support events were added to the usual MX Nationals program giving the young guns of Australian motocross a chance to strut their stuff on the big stage and in front of the large crowded gathered.

Atherton based Wilson Todd lead the charge winning the Junior 85cc class with three race wins and a third in the four events raced. It was a huge effort from the 14 year who together with his Dad travelled over 45 hours to get to the event, competed in two classes and to top it off was ran over in the first practice and raced in considerable pain.

When the battle was there to be won, Todd pumped out fast lap after fast lap to win the day in convincing fashion and push his YZ85 hard around the grueling track.

He also finished a very respectable ninth overall on his YZ125 in the Rookie Lites class.

“I am feeling pretty flat and sore now,” Todd says from his pit chair. “I did six races yesterday, another two today and I pushed hard every lap so I am looking forward to a good sleep tonight.”

“It was cool to race at an event like this, so thanks to WEM for allowing juniors to race here and also thanks to my Dad and the GYTR Yamaha team for their assistance over the weekend. It was great to be a part of it.”

Team-mate Joel Dinsdale endured a tough weekend with crashes and stalls in the opening two races and just not racing the way he usually does. Dinsdale finished with 6-2-1-3 results and took second overall in the Rookie Lites class.

“Simply put, I rode like crap. I made some dopey mistakes out there, didn’t ride with aggression and was 10% off all weekend.”

“I learnt a few things while I was here and it was good to see the pro guys on the track and take in what they do and how they prepare for a race. Regardless of the result, I think I benefitted from being here, so thanks to WEM for allowing juniors.”
