YRT Polishes Off Successful FX Campaign

7 Nov 2011

Yamaha’s Factory Road Racing Team put the finishing touches on a hugely successful 2011 season campaign claiming plenty of podium space at the final round as well as the championship in the Australian FX- Superbike Championship wrapped up at Eastern Creek over the weekend.

As previously reported, Kevin Curtain had already claimed both the FX600cc and FX Superbike championship at the penultimate round and didn’t even need to front for the final round at Eastern Creek. But always the racer, Curtain fronted the grid in both classes and again raced with passion and commitment.

On his Yamaha R6, he spent the weekend chasing Kawasaki mounted Glenn Scott in some spirited racing. Curtain claimed second for the round with 2-3-2 finishes in the three races contested.

The FX Superbike Championship class also had plenty of competition for the 2011 champ and his 3-2-1 results on the Yamaha R1 were good enough for second for the round.

Curtain also dominated the Saturday events at the FX Nationals and took away both class wins for the series making it a perfect season of dual FX Nationals (600cc/ 1000cc) as well as dual FX Superbike Championships (FX600cc / 1000cc) for Curtain and his Yamaha Racing Team.

“To be honest, I tried my hardest today and those guys just had a little more than me. I wanted to finish the championship on a winning note but wasn’t able to do it so full credit to Glenn and Scott on the way they raced today.”

“Again, another huge thanks to everyone at Yamaha and the team sponsors as results like this don’t come without a lot of hard work and John, Kev and the entire team do a great job,” Curtain says graciously.

Pat Medcalf finished off his FX Superbike championship with a fourth place finish but more importantly secured second overall in the championship making it a Yamaha 1-2 for the overall result in the 1000cc division. Medcalf was a consistent performer all season long and again in the final round his 4-8-4 results took him to fourth for the round and typical of the season Medcalf has had.

Rick Olson finished his championship off with a podium result at the final round taking third for the day in the FX Superbike class. Olson ran up the front all day and finished with 2-3-3 results from his three races to come in just behind team mate Curtain for the round.

Olson claimed fourth overall for the championship.

At days’ end, Team Manager John Redding took the time to reflect on another victorious year with his Yamaha team.

“I would just take this time to offer my thanks and congratulations to everyone involved in YRT for 2011. We set some pretty high goals here but the team, the riders and crew work tirelessly to achieve them and I couldn’t be prouder of their effort.”

“The Australian FX Superbike Championship has been a great platform for Yamaha to showcase our amazing range of road bikes and the results are proof that the production R1 and R6 are superb machines. The success of non factory riders Sean Condon, Joel Muddle and Adrian Di Giandomenico in the 600cc class is further proof of that.”

“We look forward to returning in 2012 and hope for continued success.”

The final YRT commitment for the year is on November 20 at Phillip Island for the last round of the ASBK Championship were Kevin Curtain is again in the hunt for another title.
