Yamaha Motor Australia has just announced the arrival of the brand new VX18R and VX18S WaveRunner models to the Australian market. These new models have been built to deliver genuine sports riding to a whole new generation of enthusiasts. Designed to be the most affordable muscle craft on the water, the new VX18R and VX18S combine the ultra-lightweight VX hull design with a powerful 1,812cc 4 cylinder, fuel injected engine for outstanding results.
The introduction of the VX18R and VX18S heralds the beginning of a whole new category of WaveRunners for Yamaha. For the first time, an agile and lightweight NanoXcel version of the VX hull has been combined with the extremely powerful 1,812cc engine, more commonly found in Yamaha’s larger FX series. The result is a performance craft that delivers incredible levels of acceleration, impressive top speeds and agile handling like nothing else on the water. The VX18R and VX18S deliver all this while still being an affordable package for a wide range of water sports enthusiasts.
Both the VX18R and the VX18S models feature a semi-V multi-chine hull for neutral handling, optimum stability and comfort. A round keel delivers grip and balance during cornering.
The use of NanoXcel hull constuction, a patented lightweight material exclusive to Yamaha’s WaveRunner range, dramatically reduces weight for increased agility and more efficient fuel consumption. Yamaha’s NanoXcel hull construction is much stronger than conventional hull material and also up to 25% lighter. Not only is this material superior in function, the overall finish is perfectly smooth and of a quality no other PWC manufacturer can claim to match.
Both craft come with a range of features such as multi function instrumentation, reverse and extended rear boarding platform, with the more luxurious VX18R offering additional features including an ergonomically designed step-up seat, for increased riding comfort, and also a convenient re-boarding step.
Yamaha WaveRunners are available through a nation wide network of authorised dealers. The Yamaha range encompasses models to suit beginners to the more experienced riders and racers. Full specifications and features can be found at

Features
High Output Engine
An agile and lightweight VX hull constructed of NanoXcel is combined with an extremely powerful, 1,812cc, DOHC, 16-valve engine. Delivering consistently High Output, this engine provides crisp throttle response and produces incredible levels of acceleration.
Semi-V multi-chine hull and NanoXcel hull technology
Both new models have a semi-V multi-chine hull for neutral handling, optimum stability and comfort. A round keel delivers grip and balance during cornering.
The use of NanoXcel hull technology dramatically reduces weight and – working in tandem with the High Output engine – results in a superb power-to-weight ratio. Additional benefits include increased agility and more efficient fuel consumption.
NanoXcel is a nanotechnology that uses a clay filler, broken down into microscopic constituents. The constituents are re-formed to create a single grain of clay. A much stronger, smoother bond can then be forged between grains because the bonding is random and overlapping, creating a much larger surface area for the joining. And since individual exfoliated clay elements are far smaller than alternative construction materials, NanoXcel results in a much smoother overall finish.
Cruiser Seat
The VX18R features an ergonomically designed step-up seat, for increased riding comfort and stability, and a convenient re-boarding step – to help enthusiasts get more out of their time on the water.
Hot rod style
The mono-formed exterior of the VX18S and VX18R is sleek and imposing in the water. Borrowing a term from the automotive industry, the design principle is 'fast back’, meaning a distinctive slant from the rear of the seat to the extended rear platform. In addition, an engine air intake on the bow resembles that of a hot rod car, expressing the true character of the overall design, as well as serving a practical purpose – namely, cooling the High Output engine.
