On 1 December 2021, Yamaha Motor Australia announced our first major Yamaha Rightwaters partnership - signing a three-year sponsorship agreement with Seabin™, as a major sponsor of the world first, “100 Smarter Cities for Cleaner Oceans” campaign in Sydney, Australia.

Seabin is an Australian founded clean tech start-up that has developed an innovative Ocean Health Data Platform, which involves the removal and data cataloguing of plastics and other marine debris from waterways.

Originally designed as an on-water waste collection and removal system, Seabin™ has evolved into a comprehensive research, analysis, technology, education and policy development program, with a truly global reach.

Seabin - 100 Smarter Cities for Cleaner Oceans - Sydney Harbour Program

In July 2020 the Seabin launched a 12-month city pilot program in Sydney Harbour with the ultimate aim of reducing the prevalence of marine litter in Sydney’s waterways.

The program included the placement and management of 16 Seabins installed at 8 locations in the Harbour, collecting and analysing 16.5 tonnes of plastics, surface oils and other debris throughout the 12-month period.

The pilot program was the first step in Seabin model for scaling up operations towards rolling out of the 100 Smarter Cities, For Cleaner Oceans (SCFCO) campaign, with the aim of having the program operating in 100 cities by 2050.

Yamaha’s sponsorship supports the expansion of the Sydney Harbour program, funding an additional 16 Seabins in strategic locations within the harbour. The partnership will support all facets of Seabin’s operations including marine debris collection, data analysis, community engagement, and education, plus the supply a new Yamaha powered vessel to improve collection efficiencies.
