Brisbane Yamaha's journey began in August 2008 when Aaron Goodchild acquired a small marine business in Burpengary, Queensland. With just two staff and a handful of boats, Aaron looked after every facet of the business, and his vision was clear: to create a dealership that combined customer satisfaction with top-tier products.
"In the early days, if there was an opening of a can of Coke, we were there with the Yamaha brand," Aaron recalls. “We had a proactive approach that became the dealership's hallmark that continues today.”
Aaron already had a good understanding of the marine industry thanks to his experience in magazine advertising. Daniel Grey was his chosen IT guy; the pair had worked successfully together on magazine titles and Aaron tapped into his unique skillset to turn the new dealership into a Yamaha powerhouse.
“Daniel and I were already working together, he was the in-house designer at our advertising agency,” Arron explains. “When we bought and rebranded the marine business he came along. He knew how to build an excellent website, at the time, other dealerships were not making the most of the internet, and we saw an opportunity.
To put the 10,000 outboard sales into perspective, each year Australian’s purchase approximately 26,000 outboards. The achievement places Brisbane Yamaha at the forefront of the industry, reflecting its dedication to service and the trust placed in them by the local community.
"10,000 is such a massive number of outboards. I never imagined it was possible," Aaron says when asked about reaching the milestone. "It's a real testament to our team here at Brisbane Yamaha. We concentrate our business on repowers and boats, that, combined with Yamaha's reputation for quality and reliability has helped us get to this point.”
Over the years, Brisbane Yamaha has cultivated a team of experienced professionals, with six staff members having been with the company for more than 15 years. This longevity speaks volumes for the dealership's work environment and Aaron’s leadership style.
"We are specialists in Yamaha, and we love the product, this makes it easier to sell," Aaron explains. "It's easy to sell, when you know and trust the name."

Brisbane Yamaha has always been a pioneer in adopting innovative business practices, it’s dedication to customer satisfaction extends beyond the initial sale. The dealership boasts a large workshop staffed by trained technicians, ensuring that customers receive the best after-sales service.
"We have some of the best boat fitters in the industry, with experience fitting outboards to every boat you can think of. We have great product knowledge and experience. We meet the time schedule we give the customer. The whole process is transparent from start to finish.”
At the heart of Brisbane Yamaha's operations is a customer-first culture. The dealership ensures that staff members are knowledgeable and that customers receive accurate information tailored to their needs.
"We make sure there are no surprises," Aaron states. "When we take an enquiry, we make sure our staff are knowledgeable about whatever products the customer wishes to talk about."
Brisbane Yamaha is also heavily involved in the local community, sponsoring schools, special interest groups, and sporting teams. Aaron's personal passion for fishing and boating further strengthens the dealership's connection to the community.
"I'm an avid fisherman and boater — I have four boats myself, and I enjoy everything from sitting in a tinnie crabbing to being offshore chasing game fish," he adds.
Looking ahead, Aaron reveals that Brisbane Yamaha will continue to adapt to industry trends and customer needs. With an ageing customer base and a shift towards more prestigious boats, the dealership plans to invest further in enhancing the customer experience.
"The next five years will bring interesting changes, but whatever happens we will continue to offer the very best products and service, and customers will continue to trust us with their purchase."
