Nicole Binner is the third generation of the Helensburgh Binner family, feeding the local community and visitors since the 1960s. After spending her childhood helping to run the family farm and fruit and veg store, Nicole has expanded the family business to include the popular Binners Farm Food Truck.
The food truck proudly sits in front of Binners Fruit Market and poultry, prominently located on the corner of Princes Highway and Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Helensburgh. And while the food truck has enjoyed two years of very healthy operation, it's a seedling compared to the family-owned fruit market that has been growing and selling fruit and veg from the site since 1963.
"A couple of years ago, the family decided it needed to expand into something new that would benefit the local community," explains Nicole. "That's how the Binners Farm Food Truck was born."
Initially housed in the back of a small truck, it took a little while for word of the quality burgers to spread through the motorcycling community; within a year, the impressive new kitchen on wheels was on the site.
When asked to reveal the secret behind attracting a constant stream of customers seven days per week from 7am, Nicole said it was the burgers.
"The most popular burger is by far the Binners Burger," she explains. "It's classic chips and burger with the lot, featuring the secret ingredient - Binners burger sauce."
According to Nicole, the Binners Burger is closely followed by the Mother Hen, an impressive chicken burger with bacon and chipotle.
The food truck's easily accessible location - nestled between the Royal National Park, Bald Hill, and the coast road to Wollongong or beyond - makes the Binners Farm Food Truck a favourite mid-ride stop for motorcyclists, with bikes streaming into the large parking area from early morning over the weekends.
"The most popular item on the menu for motorbike riders is the big egg and bacon roll," reveals Nicole. "The roll combined with a coffee is the perfect stop-and-chat combo."
"We also have a lot of people stopping as part of their day trip to the Symbio Wildlife Park, as well as the local temple," she adds. "Throw in the steady stream of tradies, pushbike riders, and fantastic local regulars, and you have a big mix of people visiting the food truck throughout the week."
The Binners Farm Food Truck is open seven days per week from 7am until 7pm.
