MY22 sport ATV and SSV

Yamaha Motor Australia is pleased to reveal the 2022 YFZ450R, Raptor 700 and YXZ1000R SS XT-R.

2022 YXZ1000R SS XT-R

The new YXZ1000R SS that is now offered in XT-R spec for MY22. The new model will come in Tactical Black Carbon Metallic and will be available from August 2022 priced $35,999 inc GST ready-to-ride.

The YXZ1000R SS XT-R is the most focused, high-performance SSV in the world. Every system on board ensures the highest level of performance in all terrains - from dunes and deserts to tight woods and muddy trails.

A range of stylish, high-spec components are specified including advanced FOX® Dual Spring suspension, beadlock rims wrapped in Yamaha-exclusive Maxxis® Carnage™ tyres, and enhanced underbody protection.

Upgraded centreline lighting provides enhanced visibility. A custom front grab bar mounts a heavy duty WARN® winch package with integrated driver controls while the composite suntop, high-quality painted bodywork, contrast-stitched seats and auxiliary lights complete the package.

Unique and powerful, the high-revving, high-output inline-triple engine is mated to Yamaha’s Sport Shift, a sequential five-speed manual transmission featuring Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift (YCC-S) technology. The result is a Pure Sport driving experience unmatched by anything on the market.

Big engines make headlines, but it’s the chassis that does the real work. Comfort is control when driving hard, and both driver and passenger are kept low in the chassis, while still maintaining exceptional visibility. The cabin offers roomy, high-back seats with plenty of adjustability for the driver.

Not only does this model come with Yamaha’s famous reputation for reliability, it’s also assembled in the USA and engineered with a full range of factory accessory options. You can customise to your needs and know it will exceed your expectations for years to come.

Designed to bring a Pure Sport riding character like nothing else in the SSV world, the engine was built to deliver high-revving power with the flexibility and character that only an inline triple can provide. With a compact, counterbalanced, DOHC cylinder head, a 11.3:1 compression ratio and dry-sump lubrication, this engine offers exceptional power, a thrilling 10,500 rpm redline and high-strength internals ready to handle high-output demands.

To ensure peak performance every ride, this SSV features a vented, rear-mounted radiator. This system not only reduces heat in the cabin, but it remains clear of mud or debris build-up and is designed to funnel cool air through the radiator at low or high speeds equally well.

Nothing in the SSV world can match the feeling of banging through the gears using the Sport Shift, a sequential five-speed manual transmission featuring Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift (YCC-S) technology. This system combines the power, durability and efficiency of a traditional manual transmission with an advanced automatic clutch system controlled with sporty paddle shifters mounted to the steering column. Sport Shift offers a high-tech riding experience that anyone can enjoy, with rapid and precise gear selection literally at your fingertips. And optimised gearing gives even more flexibility to handle nearly any type of trail, from wide-open desert trails to first-gear crawling.

Any engine needs to inhale clean air and exhale as efficiently as possible. The YXZ’s high capacity intake system features dual air filters - one oiled foam, one viscous paper - for maximum airflow to the engine as well as durable filtration for the dirtiest riding environments. The three-into-one high-volume exhaust system centralises weight distribution and is tuned to provide maximum power across the rev range.

The drivetrain incorporates Yamaha’s proven On-Command® 4WD system, giving the driver ultimate traction to tackle the most challenging terrain with easily selected 2WD, 4WD limited-slip, and 4WD full diff lock modes. To deliver Yamaha’s exceptional durability, this system also incorporates an over-torque protection system that eliminates spike loads to the front drive case on hard impacts, protecting it from damage without affecting performance.

Top-shelf FOX® 2.5 Podium® RC2 shocks with dual-spring-rate adjustable crossovers are specified. All four corners are fully adjustable—spring preload, crossover adjustment, rebound and both high- and low-speed compression damping - with a huge 411mm of front travel and 432mm at the rear along with exceptional ride quality, tuneability and handling.

The YXZ1000R SS XT-R is the best handling sport SSV on the planets. It attacks corners with agility, light steering feel and straight line stability across the roughest terrain. Spherical-joint double A-arms retain ideal castor angle and bump response throughout the entire travel range, and front and rear sway bars minimise body roll for flatter, more responsive cornering. And underneath the optimised frame geometry, the full-frame composite skid plates protect against rocks and debris.

The YXZ features Yamaha’s class-leading speed-sensitive EPS to reduce steering effort and provide precise handling in virtually all conditions. The EPS unit is lightweight and compact, mounted high on the rack-and-pinion steering system, further protecting it from dirt and debris.

This model offers superior braking control thanks to twin-piston calipers clamping down on large 255mm rotors in the front and 245mm rotors in the rear for excellent braking power, feel and fade-resistance under hard use. An automotive-style parking brake lever is mounted in the cabin's centre console.

Large, ultra-aggressive 29-inch Maxxis® Carnage™ radial tyres offer exceptional traction, durability and steering precision in the most extreme off-road environments. As part of the XT-R package, the beefy tyre tread is mounted on ultra-durable beadlock rims ready for the toughest terrain conditions.

The cockpit provides a balance of comfort and control with both the driver’s seat and steering wheel adjustability to ensure the perfect fit. The cab features plush, high-back seats with extra lateral support and outside shoulder bolsters. Shaped floorboards supply generous legroom while still giving a planted feel.

A strong but lightweight composite suntop keeps the cabin running cool and perfectly matches the rakish lines of the YXZ body. The roof features proper clearance for riders in their helmets, eliminating the cramped feel found in many competitors’ machines.

Instruments are inspired by Yamaha’s high-performance supersport motorcycles. Functions include a digital speedometer, analog tachometer, programmable shift light, and readouts for 4WD mode, gear position, fuel level, trip meters, hour meter, coolant temperature warning and a clock.

The rear-mounted radiator significantly reduces cabin heat compared to a conventional forward-mounted cooling system.

On top of the stylish painted bodywork, contrast-stitched seats, and high-spec interior controls, there are auxiliary lights throughout the cabin.

To ensure you can get out of even the toughest spots when far away from civilisation a WARN® VRX 4500 winch is mounted. The winch package was engineered alongside the XT-R, the winch’s controls are integrated into the electrical system, putting the controls right where the driver needs them.

Yamaha continues to build industry-leading machines lauded for their peerless reliability and durability. Superior fit and finish, high-quality components and durable construction are designed to make every ride exceptional.

Four super bright and long-lasting LED headlights provide brilliant forward illumination and give a sinister sense of style. Includes a bright LED taillight for extra visibility, while the XT-R package provides even more light thanks to additional centre-mounted auxiliary lights.

Bring what you need thanks to a cargo rack with a 136kg capacity. A glove box in the cab provides additional storage as do passenger-side cup holders and a central storage tray in the dashboard.

Developed alongside this model are a range of accessories, including audio options, lighting, and performance upgrade kits—all of which come with the engineering expertise of Yamaha.

2022 YFZ450R

YFZ450R continues into 2022 unchanged and still the most technologically advanced Sport ATV on the market today. It combines a high-tech, quick-revving, titanium-valved, 449cc fuel-injected engine with a lightweight, cast aluminium/steel chassis.

The YFZ450R is motocross-ready. The weldless frame is designed from lightweight aluminium with a tension-steel bottom frame that lets the engine sit lower for excellent mass centralisation. Suspension components and settings reduce weight while providing light, sharp handling and rider comfort.

With more room to hang off in the corners, the bodywork is designed for great ergonomics and rider comfort. The seat shape is padded in just the right places while the body panels come off easily without tools for service, so there’s no need to remove the battery or other components to take the fenders off.

The 449cc engine uses titanium five-valve cylinder head technology to deliver abundant power in the mid-range to top-end with more “hit” feeling right off idle. The higher compression ratio further improves overall engine performance. Camshafts have been revised to maximise the engine’s impressive power output from off the line all the way up to the top-end.

The YFZ450R incorporates Yamaha Fuel Injection (YFI) for precise fuel delivery. With a big 42mm Mikuni® throttle body and 12-hole injector, this system provides exceptional atomisation of the fuel for maximum power. The system also includes ISC (Idle Speed Control) for easy, reliable start-up and warming.

An assist-and-slipper clutch reduces clutch lever effort for less fatigue while at the same time increasing clutch plate pressure for positive engagement. This clutch system also reduces engine braking effect for faster cornering, particularly when downshifting.

The crankcase holds a crankshaft that’s ready to handle the increased demands of the racer, as well as a counterbalancer to reduce vibration.

The crankcase also houses the oil tank which helps to centralise mass for unmatched handling while making maintenance easier.

Wheels have been designed with the inner lip rolled in to increase rigidity, allowing for a reduction in weight while maintaining strength. Wheels are set motocross-spec wide, near the allowable maximum for great cornering speed. Maxxis® tyres provide excellent handling and control. At 20 inches in the rear and 21 inches in the front, they provide better ground clearance than the competition.

The large-diameter tapered handlebar reduces vibration and is mounted on four-way clamps for exceptional adjustability. The two sets of holes in the handlebar crown and the eccentric clamps allow the rider to choose the standard setting: 10mm forward, 20mm forward or 10mm backward.

Generous 66mm wide foot pegs are something riders will appreciate every time they want to get up on the pegs. The front frame is as narrow  as possible at the A-arm mounting points. This increases the A-arm length and reduces changes in camber as the suspension travels through its full range of motion.

Front KYB® shocks are longer for increased stroke, superb bump absorption and excellent anti-bottoming characteristics. The Kashima™ coating offers smooth operation while the 249mm of wheel travel means the racer is ready for the most challenging tracks.

Rear swingarm is crafted of strong, gravity-fed aluminium and is matched to a fully adjustable 46mm KYB® piggyback shock for excellent handling. For comfort even on tough terrain, the rear wheel offers 279mm of travel.

The throttle lever requires low effort for less fatigue during long motos. And the discreet panel on the fender in front of the rider gives vital indicators about low fuel, coolant temperature, check engine and neutral gear via an LED display.

MY22 YFZ450R is available in Team Yamaha Blue priced $15,749 inc GST ready-to-ride. Units are expected to arrive in Australia from May 2022.
