2025 World Tech Grand Prix to be Livestreamed from Japan

Australia’s Lincoln Brien set to take on the world’s best Yamaha technicians

The stage is set for the World Technician Grand Prix 2025 (WTGP) – Yamaha Motor’s premier global competition for Land Mobility technicians – to be held in Japan on November 19. For the first time in its history, this elite showdown will be livestreamed worldwide, allowing motorcycle fans and industry insiders alike to witness the precision, passion, and problem-solving skills that define Yamaha’s service network.

Running under the slogan “Master Your Craft, Make Your Mark”, the 2025 WTGP will feature 22 technicians from 19 countries and regions, all secured their places through rigorous regional qualifiers. Representing the Oceania region will be Australia’s Lincoln Brien from Chris Watson Motorcycles (NSW).

Contestants will compete in one of two classes, Sports Model or Commuter Model, tackling hands-on maintenance challenges and customer service scenarios that mirror real-world dealership situations

A Global Stage, A Special Year
This year’s WTGP carries extra significance. Not only does it mark the ninth edition of the event since its 2002 debut, but it also coincides with Yamaha Motor’s 70th anniversary. It is also the first WTGP event to be held in seven years, following a pandemic-induced hiatus.

“The enthusiasm is stronger than ever,” said Yogi Matsumura from Yamaha’s Customer Experience Business Unit. “Technicians must diagnose hidden issues, perform repairs under pressure, and deliver customer satisfaction – it’s an intense, world-class test of skill. We want the livestream audience to feel that same tension and excitement.”

Lincoln Brien to Represent Oceania
Fingers will be crossed at Yamaha Motor Australia and Yamaha Motor New Zealand for Lincoln Brien of Chris Watson Motorcycles (NSW). In March this year, Lincoln claimed victory at the 2025 Oceania Technician Grand Prix (OTGP), staged at Yamaha Motor Australia’s Wetherill Park headquarters.

After years of near misses, including a runner-up finish in 2019, Lincoln finally captured the Oceania crown and the right to represent the Oceania Region at the WTGP. “Honestly, I’m over the moon,” he reflected. “To finally take this out feels incredible. I’ve put everything into this over the years, with late nights, training, studying every detail, and to know I’ll be representing Australia and Oceania in Japan is a dream come true.”

Known for his sharp diagnostic skills and hands-on approach, Lincoln has built a reputation for solving the toughest workshop challenges. A lifelong rider and fan of Yamaha’s Ténéré 700, he was inspired to follow his father’s path as a technician. Now, he will step onto the world stage to compete against Yamaha’s best from every corner of the globe.

“Lincoln is a fantastic ambassador for Australia and New Zealand,” said Trevor Forbes, Yamaha Motor Australia’s Division Manager, Service. “His journey reflects the dedication and professionalism that all Yamaha technicians bring to their customers every day.”

A Seven-Part Video Miniseries
To highlight the passion of all the Yamaha technicians that took part in the OTGP, Yamaha Motor Australia has produced a seven-part video miniseries that captures the skills, challenges, and personalities of the ten competitors who battled for the Oceania crown

Each episode tells the story of one competitor, showcasing not just their technical talent but also their unique personalities and commitment to customer service. The series provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to excel in Yamaha’s technical community, from diagnosis and electrical testing to the high-pressure customer interactions that define the modern workshop. As each episode of the series is released, it will be added to the carousel below.

Looking Ahead
With the livestreamed World Technician Grand Prix and the ongoing video series, 2025 is proving to be a landmark year for Yamaha’s service community. Fans from around the world can now witness the drama, skill, and dedication that goes into keeping Yamaha motorcycles running at their very best.
