Yamaha Dealers Experience The All-new YZF-R9
Yamaha Motor Australia’s Land Mobility team has again demonstrated its commitment to building stronger connections with dealers and staff by hosting the We R Family YZF-R9 Experience at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Held over two days on the technical and exciting South Circuit, the event welcomed Yamaha dealers from around Australia and New Zealand, as well as staff from Yamaha’s Wetherill Park head office, to step into the shoes of Yamaha customers and experience the new triple-cylinder Supersport machine.
The We R Family YZF-R9 Experience follows a series of practical events organised by the Yamaha Motor Australia Land Mobility team, including the Dealer Reunion, WR450F Enduro launch, and the recent SSV Experience in Lithgow. These initiatives all delivered a unique approach to dealer and staff engagement, ensuring the people who market and sell Yamaha products have an opportunity to experience and understand them.
“Every time we hold one of these interactive experiences, the feedback we receive from staff and dealers is overwhelmingly positive,” said Matthew Ferry, General Manager Sales & Marketing – Land Mobility. “People are genuinely excited to work for and with Yamaha and to be part of the Yamaha family. The massive amount of hard work that goes into organising these events is worth it when you see the engagement with the Yamaha brand it delivers.”
Each day began with a hearty breakfast and a detailed presentation on the YZF-R9 from the Land Mobility team. MotoSchool CEO Haydan Parker then led a rider briefing before groups hit the track. Alongside the headline YZF-R9, Yamaha also offered Y-AMT-equipped MT-07, MT-09, and Tracer 9 GT+ models, giving riders a taste of the latest semi-automatic gearbox technology.
Away from the on-track action, a trade village showcased Yamaha departments, including Genuine Parts & Accessories, Financial Services, Ficeda Accessories, and Dunlop. A pop-up café quickly became the social hub of the event, providing participants with the chance to relax and share their experiences with the YZF-R9.

From the moment the first green light appeared until the final chequered flag on day two, the bike’s performance drew universal praise, from first-time track riders to experienced track day attendees. The most common description? Confidence-inspiring.
Cameron Newman – YMA Dealer Relationship Manager
“What a bike. I’m still shaking from the excitement of riding it—I can’t wait to get back out there.”
Jonathan Rudder – Yamaha IT
“An amazing way to spend a workday. I’ve owned a couple of Yamahas with the CP3 engine, and this Supersport setup really brings out the best in it.”
Kam Williams – YMA Dealer Relationship Manager
“The braking package and quickshifter are the standouts for me. I’m not an experienced road rider, but the R9 fills me with confidence.”
Darren Jeffries – Victory Lane
“Wow, it’s phenomenal. It’s so smooth; the delivery of the power and the handling are amazing, and the adjustable modes make a massive difference to the way the bike behaves.”
Even multiple Australian Superbike Champion Mike Jones applauded the YZF-R9’s versatility.
Mike Jones – Yamaha Racing Team
“The track-inspired components are very similar to my YZF-R1, but as an overall package, the power delivery and tractability make it easy to ride. It’s a great street bike, and it’s ready for the track work anytime you are.”

Behind the Scenes: A True Team Effort
Delivering such a polished event required enormous effort from Yamaha’s Land Mobility team. With just weeks to prepare, the team coordinated logistics, RSVPs, dealer hosting, product presentations, and content creation to ensure every detail was covered. Many staff members worked from before sunrise until long after dark on both days to ensure the experience was seamless.
“Events like this showcase not just our products, but our people,” said Matthew Ferry. “The collaboration and commitment of our Land Mobility team was exceptional. Balancing their day-to-day roles with the demands of staging a major event like this is no small feat, and they delivered two outstanding days that reflected Yamaha’s professionalism and passion.”
As with last year’s Dealer Reunion at SMSP, also run by the Yamaha-supported MotoSchool team, the two days ran without incident—a testament to MotoSchool’s commitment to safety, the rideability of the YZF-R9, and the mature and responsible attitude of everyone who took part.
“Haydan is a Hands-on leader whose attention to detail and commitment to safety fully align with Yamaha’s values,” Matthew Ferry said. “His vision for expanding these kinds of experiences across Australia is exciting. We’re fortunate to have him on our side, and look forward to holding more events like this.”
The success of the We R Family YZF-R9 Experience reinforced Yamaha’s engagement philosophy by putting dealers and staff in the customer’s shoes to gain a deeper understanding of the product and the unique value Yamaha delivers. The smiles, laughter, and conversations shared across the two days were proof that Yamaha is onto a winner with its practical strategy.
